Club hlds bird meeting
By Abby Champ
For those of you who like
me, had just put your mink
coats in storage the weather
this past week must have
been a trial. Daily as I went
to the post office I would
hear everyone grumbling
that it seemed too soon for
winter. It seems so ironic
that it would finally snow
now that the daffodils are
out.
The Garden Club rnet
April 12. The speaker, Mr.
J.B. Ford from the Regional
Royal Botanical Gardens in
Hamilton, gave an excellent
talk on "How to plan your
garden to attract birds".
Needless to say it was very
popular with this community
of bird lovers. The core of his
talk centered on the need to
provide both food and shelter
within an easy range.
The Garden Club should
surely be commended for the
work that they do to beautify
our village.
The Agricultural Society
rnet April 14 and discussed
plans for this summer's fair.
The Clinton Legion Pipe
band will be coming, so with
this much advance notice I
expect to see the ladies of the
village decked out Scottish
style and prepared to dance
the jig. We really are very
lucky to have such a good
band so close.
The Society also plans to
continue the entertainment
program which was so suc-
cessful last year and expects
there will be square dancing,
round dancing and old time
music. Prize books are being
printed and will soon be
available.
Mrs. Carol Penhale
reported that the card party
was very successful and Mr.
Ed Oddliefson reported that
council will be unable to pro-
vide fencing for John Street
this year.
The United Church held
their Ham Supper which was
attended in full force by the
Cleave family. Mr. and Mrs.
Logan Cleave celebrated
their 45th anniversary this
week and attended the sup-
per with 32 of their relatives.
Congratulations are cer-
tainly due them.
Arnold and Ruth Maksns
were visited by their
daughter Brenda Miskie and
Brook from Marathon and
Dave and Bonnie Chapman
and Cala Danielle from
Toronto. They also visited
their grandparents Ester
1
and 1Lloyd_ Also visiting his
grandparents was Mr. Jim
Mackie of Windsor.
Due to the exodus from
Bayfield which occured this
past week by our world
travellers the Historical
Society meeting for April
has been cancelled but will
be held the usual time in
May.
Tuckers y ' ` UCW
hold potluck meal
The Tuckersmith UCW
Unit 1 penny losers held a
potluck meal for the 1982
winners on April 12.
Mrs. Hazel McCartney ex-
pressed her pleasure at see-
ing more ladies present. She
thanked everyone who had
helped make the meal.
The roll call was answered
by 15 members and one
visitor. Mrs. Violet Ross
read thank you cards from
Mrs. Vena Bery, the Dallas
Family and Miss Jean
