The evening of music and song was enjoyed by a full house audience at the local United Church. (Shelley McPhee photo) Songfest held in Londesboro United Church Greeters on Sunday morning were Jim and Bob Jamieson. Ushers were John Cartwright, Stephen Duizer, Robbie Radford and David Whyte. Cohn Swan welcomed all and conducted ther service. The junior teachers were Ann Adams, Cheryl Lyon and Dianna Shobbrook. Song fest On Sunday night a full house enjoyed the song fest sponsored by Board of Stewards with Elgin Pen - found as convenor. Colin Swan welcomed all and was M.C. Participating were the Wil bee family; Ontario Street United Church, Clinton.the Junior Choir with choir director Louise McGregor, pianists Lorie Mann and Barry Turner; Ken Scott and family; The Snell family; the Londesboro Junior Choir with Choir Director Irene Bromley, Pianist Barb Bosman and Ropp brothers quartet. The Board of Stewards thank all who took part. End of Season Shuffleboard On April 13 winners at shuffleboard were: ladies high, Audrey Thompson; 2nd high, Beryl Reid; low, !:.eth Knox; 2nd low, Margaret Good; men's high, Reg Lawson; 2nd high, Lorne Bunking; low, Watson Reid; 2nd low, George Hoggart. Playoff winners were: George Hoggart and Beryl Reid; low, Reg Lawson and Beth Knox; high score for season ladies, Vietta Hoggart; men, George Hoggart. Lunch was served and a social time spent. Bowling banquet The ladies bowling league ended with a Banquet on April 12 served by U.C.W. in the church. The 1982-83 results were: League champs, Dorothy Airdrie Marjorie McNall, Cera) a e Johnston, Crystal Hallett school news Visiting Poet On April 14, a poet from Toronto came to Hullett Cen- tral. His name was Robert Priest. First he talked to all the grades from K-8 in the gym. He read some of his poems and he also sang a song. After recess he then came and talked to the Grades 7, and 2. He asked them to make up different poems and then show him. All the students thought that he was very good. Reporter - Lori 1.ivermore Science Fair On April 13, the regional science fair was held in Clin- ton. Representing Hullett were Lori Bromley, Kerrie Shepherd and Jamie Gibb- ings. Congratulations to Lori Bromley who won 3rd in grade 7 physical. After supper the group went bowling and high scorers were Debbie Wallace and Cathy Moes; low, Connie DeJong and Linda enkema; Door Prize- Roxy Maize. 4-H party The Londesli r ro 3, 4-H Club held their party on April 11 at Londesii iro hall. The dinner was prepar ,.i by 4-H members with their families as guests. We had quite a large menu of foods including scotch eggs, celery soup, middle Eastern Stuffed vegetables for dessert, Gingerbread and apple pie Greek style to name a few. After dinner we played charades and Tell a Tale. The party was enjoyed by all and a great success. - by Jennifer Sottiaux. Personals Sunday supper guests with Allen and Barb Bosman, Lisa and Kelly were her parents Jack and Marion Snell and their family Bonnie and Ross Jewitt, Lori and Scott, Clinton. The Snell family participated in the song fest at the United Church. On Monday April 11, 18 U.C.W. ladies went to Huronview to quilt on a quilt for Ida Durnin a resident there and former U.C.W. member here. Several residents visited with ladies, a cup of coffee and lunch was served. A car load went back on Thursday night. Gail Lear, Marion Snell, Florence Cartwright, Mary Peel and Jane Swan at- tended the Huron -Perth Presbyterial meeting Goderich on April 11. On April 13 Margaret Taylor, Marjorie Anderson and Dora Shobbrook at- tended the 35th Anniversary of Tiger Dunlop W.I. when they held a memorian for Mrs. Tait Clark and unveiled her picture. Note change of date - Happy Gang Seniors will meet on Tuesday, April 26 instead of Wednesday, April 27 at 1:30 p.m. Visiting this past week with Mr. and Mrs. Jake McDougall and Harry Caldwell was es nice Gwen McDougall of Asher, Manitoba on Sunday Jake's nephew Don Spring and Mrs. M. Martin of Wyervale and Mr. Wm. ',I aniels Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Colin Paterson and Kate of London spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns. On Sunday their daughter Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Smith of Kincardine visited. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mar- zano, Candice and Glen of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Crawford, Leanne of Kelowna B.C. spent the weekend with their mother Mrs. Jean Caldwell. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Alan Caldwell, Dwight and Dean, Auburn visited with his mother. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Carter and Colleen spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Carter in Simcoe. Mr. Toni Sleenwenhoek of Kitchener spent the weekend with his Aunt Mr. and Mrs. Arie Duizer, also visiting were Mr. and Mrs. Herb Duizer, Audrey, Lyndon and Trena of Clinton, Debbie Bunking of Stratford, Mrs. Wayne Kennedy. Brenda and John Radford held a "Drop In" on Sunday in support of Ladies Hospital Auxiliary of the Clinton Hospital. A large number of invited friends enjoyed. Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse The April meeting of the Belgrave afternoon U C W. was held April 11. Mrs. Earl Anderson, the leader conducted the business. There were 24 Easter cards sent out from the Afternoon and Evening Units. Everyone was reminded to save the tapes from Knechtels and Zehrs. Ken Wheeler showed a fiber entitled "The Silver Sea", which dealt with the Pacific Islands. Mrs. Anderson gave in- fornration on Vanastra. Euchre party Eleven tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall on April 13. Winners were: High Lady, Mrs. George Michie; Novelty Lady, Mrs. Addie Bacon: Low Lady, Mrs. Eva McGill; High Man, George UC_, Inglis; Novelty Man, Clarence YuJI; Low Man, Edgar Wightman. There will be euchre again Wednesday April 20. Due to the play '.Everyone is Getting Married", which will be held at the East Wawanosh Public School on Wednesday April 27 at8 p.m. and sponsored by the Belgrave W.I. the next euchre will be held Thursday evening April 28. Everyone as welcome. The Evening Unit of the U.C. U.C.W, met on April 5 with Mrs. George Procter as hostess. Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler announced that a bale would be packed and sent to the Goodwill Mission, London with articles to be left at the home of Mrs. Cliff Logan by April 15. An invitation to attend the Blyth U.C.W. The May meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Jack Taylor. Mrs. Cliff Logan had charge of the program and showed the filen on "People of the Silver Seas". Mrs. Ross Anderson read "Paradise Polluted" and Mrs. William Cotaltes read an article on "Revolution in Paradise in the South Seas." The members then divided into six groups and a discussion followed. People report Congratulations are ex- tended to Mrs. Nelson Higgins who celebrated her 89th birthday on April 12. This event was made very special by the arrival of twin great-grandsons, Michael Thomas and David Curtis, the proud parents of the boys are Don and Connie Pletch off f viewing Llderton. Mrs. Elizabeth Procter spent a few days recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Zettler and Sherry Lynn of Chepstow. Last Sunday visitors at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Procter were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Procter, Karen and Kevin, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Zettler and Sherry Lynn of Chepstow and Marjorie Procter of Sarnia who spent the weekend with her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Americo Arruda, Maria and Michelle of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Barry Logan. Michael, Shawn and Becky of Burlington and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Logan, Kevin and Trevor of Wyoming spent the past weekend with their mother Mrs. Cliff Logan and also celebrated her birthday which is later this month. Sympathy is extended to Mr. Harold Keating in the loss of his aunt Miss Bella Keating of Brookhaven Nursing Home, Wingliani West Wawanosh Council select tender At the regular meeting of West Wawanosh Township Council held on April 5 it was decided that the township will increase the accident, liability and property in- surance coverage to the amount of protection recommended by the Frank Cowan Company, at an in- creased cost of $508 an- nually. The motion was passed after council heard a presentation review from agent Frank Foran and Gordon Sheehan of Frank Cowan Insurance Company on the township's insurance coverage. Tenders examined Council accepted the tender of Bannerman Contracting Ltd., Kin- cardine, for the crushing and hauling of approximately 25,000 cubic yards at $1.43 per cubic yard and stock- piling approximately 500 cubic yards at $1 per yard. Bannerman Contracting won the tender over three other firms. In a seperate motion council voted to accept to purchase gravel to be crushed from the firm of Johnston Bros. Ltd., of Dungannon at a cost of 44 cents per cubic yard from the north bank and 54 cents per cubic yard from the west bank. Price accepted Council accepted a price quotation from Pollard Bros. for liquid calcium chloride for the 1983 season for $171.25 per flake ton equivalent. Permits issued Building permits were issued to G. Park for a house addition, W. Hardy a shed and E. Gingerich, a house and shed addition. No decision made The lane constructed by Charles Johnston at Nile, and deeded to the township by Mr. Johnston was discussed. Business was in charge of Mrs. Berva Watson. It was decided to have the copper money brought to the next meeting instead of June as it is the joint meeting for all units of the UCW. Mrs. Melva Fraser was hostess for the 8th and 16th April meeting. Mrs. Joyce Van Vliet took Easter as the topic for her worship. Mrs. Marie McCutcheon spoke on their trip to Cuba. Several ladies' of Duff's UCW attended the special event, Monday evening, April 11 at North Street United Church, Goderich. Congratulations to Clint and Judy Emmrich on the birth of their baby daughter, Catharine Irene, born in Wingham hospital, Tuesday, April 12. Dianne's brother, Brian, was operating a tractor and she was attempting to mount the moving vehicle when she slipped and fell under the machine, the front wheel passing over her body. She was rushed to Wingham and District Hospital by am- bulance and transferred to the London hospital. AUTOM BILE Flowers were placed in Duff's church sanctuary on Sunday by the family in memory of the late Mrs. Florence McGavin who died Thursday evening. The bale articles are to be left in the church basement by April 24, to be packed the first of next week. the township's road system was made pending further information from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and the Municipal Solicitor. Petition accepted Council passed a motion that the township accept the petition for drainage signed by Douglas and Harold Gaunt and others. Bylaws passed ('oun.il passed a bylaw authorizing the construction of the Borland drain Colborne Township) and the levy of assessments un owners in West Wawanosh Township for the cost of construction. Council also passed a bylaw authorizing repairs to the Young's Creek drain by Colborne Township and the levy of assessments to cover the share of costs due from West Wawanosh 'Township owners.
