Lodge members celebrated its 34th birthday on Wednesday evening when members en- joyed a dinner at Carmel Presbyterian Church. The District Deputy President of Huron District No. 23 Sister Alice Bowen and Members of Pride of Huron Lodge, Ex- eter were guests. The regular meeting followed at the lodge hall with Noble Grand Margaret Consitt presiding assisted by Vice Grand Margaret Up - shall. Mrs. Alice Bowen D.D.P. was presented to the lodge by Bertha MacGregor Jr. P.N.G. and was received by the Noble Mrs. Consitt and presented with a cor- sage. Mrs. Ruby Bell s eele rerted for the Fiinance committee, Mrs. Marg Up - shall reported for the visiting committee and treasurer Mrs. Dorothy Cor- bett gave the financial report. An invitation was received to the open house for Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett and to Rebekah members for Ladies' night, April 27. Hap- py Birthday was extended to Mrs. Ruby Bell, Mrs. Sharon Love and Mrs. Gladys Col- eman. Members were reminded of the District meeting at Pride of Huron Lodge, Exeter, April 13 at 2 p.m. Mrs. Bowen D.D.P. spoke to the members con- gratulating them on their work and on What It Means Es teem e Hensall native W. Mur- doch Stewart died, in Mar- ch, in Nixa, Missouri, follow- ing a long illness. A longtime resident of Lake Forest, Illinois, he was born on a farm near Hensall on January 29, 1907. After at- tending local schools, in- cluding Seaforth Collegiate Institute, he attended the University of Toronto, graduating in Honor Mathematics in 1931. He then went to the United States and worked at several companies including Aetna Life and John Mancock, and lasting as Actuary of Central Standard in Chicago. In 1960 he established his own con- sulting actuarial firm to meet the needs of smaller companies. He became a fellow of the Acturarial Society of America in 1937. In 1960-61 he served as president of the Chicago Actuarial Club. He operated his business until his retire- ment in 1973. Mr. Stewart had many in- terests outside his profes- sion. For many years he was on the board of governors of the Illinois Saint Andrew Society, in 1976, received the Clansman of the Year award for service. The new chairman is in fact Don Campbell. In another article, a photo taken of the exercise class at Huronview included Esther Jamieson, not Mary. UCW Nleet Unit 2 of the U.C.W. of Hensall United Church met on Monday evening with Jean Wareing chairing the meeting. In the business, invitations were read from Exeter UCW, Kippen UCW, and Elinnville UCW. Members were rerrunded that they entertain at the Queensway Nursing Home in May and also put flowers in the church for May. Youth Rally South Huron Youth for Christ held their monthly Rally on Saturday at Brucefield school with a large attendance. Director Bob Heywood was in charge and opened with several Easter choruses and prayer. The three area quiz teams then quizzed on 20 questions from I Tiniothy Chapter 5. The Zurich team topping the highest score. At the May Rally they will quiz on d Timothy Chapter 6; this is the final, also the last indoor Rally. Mrs. Kevin Parker sane a solo. Easter Thank -Offering The Easter Thank- Hensall native dies in II.S.A. which he served as the first resident elder. He was very interested in genealogical research on family and friends. He was also a member of the Stewart Society of Edin- burgh, Scotland. Mrs. Stewart died in 1981 at the age of 76. Survivors include a son, Donald Duncan, U.S. Dept. of Defense; and two grand- children Janet Anne and An- drew Duncan. United News A Gospel Hymn Sing open- ed the service on Sunday morning at the United Church when the congrega- tion joined in singing some of the old beloved hymns. Pat Cook greeted the wor- shippers and the ushers were John McAllister, David Rowcliffe, Randy Parker and Jim Parsons. The choir, under the Direction of Marlene Nagegaal sang The flowers at the front of the church were placed in memory of Mrs. Inez McEwan by her family Harry, Donna and Gerry Smith. The congregation were reminded that the Youth Choir from Wesley -Knox United Church in London will be presenting their Can- tata "Lord, I Believe" next Sunday at the morning ser- vice. This outstanding youth choir is under the direction of John Chalmers of the University of Western On- tario Music Department. The Junior Hi Group en- joyed an evening of recrea- tion at the school on Friday evening under the leadership of Murray Wareing. Rev. Kenneth Knight con- ducted worship in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sun- day. Mrs. Dorothy Taylor presided at the organ.
