Twenty-four rinks competed for- the Rene Brochu trophy, with curlers travelling here from several distant clubs, including Arthur, London, Ilderton, Ripley, Lucknow, Mississauga, Kincardine and Richmond Hill. Meat prizes of steaks, hams and bacon were presenked to the top twelve rinks, supplied by Dan -el Abbot at Holanesville and sponsored by the local in- surance companies. The other 12 teams each received a door prize supplied by Clinton merchants. Brian Triebner's rink won the first draw and the trophy. On his team were Bill McClennan as skip, Jean McClennan, Brian Triebner and Audrey Triebner. Second place overall went to Ken Wieser with his London rink. Special mention should be given to Mark Cantelon's junior school team which won the third draw and placed third overall only 134 points behind the winner. On Mark's team were Julie Townsend, Scott Cooper and Sherry Chuter. The first draw standings were Brian Triebner, Jim Ross, Ron Sellars, Brian Falconer, Geo. Cantelon, Bill Coleman, Brad Falconer, and Keith Tyndall. In the second draw Ken Wieser was the winner followed by Elliott Courtney, Gary Mackay, Don Brodie, Carm Nixon, Mike Shep- pard, Gerry Lobb, and Ken Rogerson. The third draw winner was Mark Cantelon followed by Gord Fisher, Ron Brown, Alex Townsend, Barry Davis, Jack McLachlan, Bert Vanderndool and Bob Allan. A dance at the club was enjoyed by all on Sat. evening, and many new curling friends were made, with music supplied by Russ Archer. A generous supply of food including Sunday morning breakfast was available at all times sup- plied by the Vanastra Club and Saturday dinner by Mrs. Miller. St. Marys will eel r .rate The first anniversary of the signing of the Canadian constitution will be celebrated in the Town of St. Marys on Sun si , y, April 17, Local citizens are organizing the one -day event to be called the Maple Leaf Festival. Organizers say the aim of the festival is to provide a program and ceremony to enjoy .the oc- casion. A slo-pitch tournament at 10 a.m. will start off the events. At 1 p.m. a Maple Leaf early bird tennis tournament will begin as will other sporting events. The highlight of the day will be a reception at the town hall at 12:30 p.m. with Perth MP Bill Jarvis, MPP High Edighoffer and other politicians in attendance. 'The reception will then move to Centennial Park for a tree planting ceremony, at 1:30 p.m. It is hoped the event will become an annual affair with a ceremonial tree planted each year.
