This is the second time a Junior Far- mers dub has been attempted in Clinton. A few years ago one was started but that club left Clinton and started up in Auburn. .'The response was overwhelming," said Bryan Williams, the past president of the Huron County Junior Farmers. Mr. Williams said t Junior Farmers club was encouraged in Clinton by the county club. The county sent a letter to 4-H members and a few other people in- forming them about Junior Farmers and about upcoming meetings. Mr. Williams said the response to the letters encouraged them to go ahead and start the club. Junior Farmers is open to persons from 15 to 30 years -old. The club participates in community betterment projects as well as a number of social events. "The Junior Farmers is anything but just for farmers. It's for everybody. Junior Farmers gives its members a chance to make lasting friendships," said Mr. Williams. At the meeting on March 23 the club held an election for their executive. Larry Plaetzer will be this year's president and Ralph Nivens will be the vice president. Marilyn Archambault was elected club secretary and Al Lavis will be the New gr New Grant Programa A new five-year program will be effective on April 1, 1983. According to Mr. Williams the Clinton and u-istrict Junior Farmers will par- ticipate in two or three community projects this year. One project that is already underway is the posting of dangerous gas signs. The chi?) will be working in conjunction will the Farm and Home Safety group in posting dangerous gas signs on the silos of farms in Stanley, Goderich and Morris Town- ships. It is hoped the signs will reduce the number of accidents connected with the ngerous gases by warning people of its isonous presetnce. According to Mr. Williams, two people have died in the last five years in these counties in gas related deaths. On April 9 the Clinton club will be hosting the Provincial Junior Farmer Drama Festival. The festival will be held in Blyth and 10 groups from across the province will be represented. Each group will be putting on a one act play. Huron, Middlesex and Bruce have their acts registered and the rest are expected to sign up soon. If the first meeting is any indication of the future of the Junior Farmers in Clinton, it should be a long lasting club that will definitely add to Clinton and the surrounding communities. ill program cost of manure storages to a maximum of $5,000 per farmer or per corporation or per partnership.
