Locals on
housing
authority
Two area residents have
been appointed to the Huron
County Housing Authority,
Housing Minister Claude
Bennett announced recently.
Barry Reid, a chartered
accountant, and Harold
Robinson, an insurance
agent with Howick Mutual
Insurance Company and
past warden for Huron Coun-
ty, will serve on the seven -
member authority which
nianages Ontario Housing
Corporation's 415 assisted
housing units in the Huron
County area.
The federal, provincial
and municipal governments
are invited to nominate
individuals for appointment
to the housing authority by
provincial order -in -council.
The province appoints the
housing authority chairman.
Commenting on the ap-
pointment, OHC chairman
Allan Moses noted that the
day-to-day management of
all off OHC's I) housing
units is carried out by local
housing authorities,
although the primary
responsibility for assisted
housing remains with OHC.
"By volunteering their
time to serve on the local
housing authority, private
citizens like Reid and Robin-
son are helping to ensure
that Ontario's assisted
housing program is sensitive
and can respond to the needs
of the many communities it
serves," said Moses.
The Huron County Housing
Authority manages 331
senior citizen assisted hous
ing units and ; ! units for low-
income families. The
authority also provides hous-
ing for physically -disabled
and mentally -retarded per-
sons who are capable of liv-
ing on their own.

Clinton s
bi._'gest fire
The most disastrous fire in
('linton's hl:;tory occurred in
1907 when 20 buildings
burned There was a strong
gale blowing, and it looked
as if the whole town could be
burned down Fire fighters
were summoned from as far
away as Stratford and they
came by train, bringing their
fire engine on a flat car.
Every available team and
wagon met them at the
station to take their equip-
ment
quipment to the scene of the fires
