Mr. George Cowan, minister of the church, led the service with Mrs. Donald Kai at the organ and Mrs. Albert Wasson at the piano. Mrs. Kai led the choirs com- posed of the following chur- ches, Trinity Anglican Chur- ch, Londesboro United Chur- ch, Christian Reformed Church and Blyth United Church, they sang three songs during the service. The guest speaker was Rev. Adrian Dielenian who spoke on the theme, The Suf- fering Servant. Other ministers assisting with the service were Rev. Robin Lyons, Rev. Charles Swan, Mr. Colin Swan and Mrs. George Cowan. Lost Heir There were six tables of Lost Heir played on Wednes- day night with the winners as follows: high lady, Mary Holland; high man, Ray Madill; low lady, Dorothy Daer; low man, Gordon Murrey. Lost Heir will be played next week. Everyone is welcome. Personal Mr. and Mrs. Ken Longman of London visited with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Longman and family of Blyth. Euchre There were 11 tables of euchre played on Monday night with the winners as follows: high lady, Lilly Leatherland of Auburn; high man, Len Shobbrook; low lady, Mrs. Mel Jacklin of Brussels; low man, John Simpson of Brussels; ladies' lone hands, V i Howes of Clin- ton; men's lone hands, Cliff Hoegy of Walton; special, Ted Mills of Auburn. UCW News The Blyth U.C.W. met on March 24. Mary Campbell, with Susan Howson assisting, showed a film strip, The Silver Seas. By telling of the experiences of Judith Ray, a Toronto nurse, who served as a tutor in nursing schools in Papua, New Guinea. Blyth Public School On March 18, the Grade 3, 4 class held their assembly under the direction of Mrs. Merrill and Mrs. Battye. Opening exercises were on Easter including a hymn, Bi- ble story, song and play. Piano solos were given by Darryl Elliott, David Hessels, Laurie Wharton, Tammi Medd, Vicki Glousher, Karli Yanchus, and Rick Howson. Public speaking winners retold their speeches at the Assembly - Kelly Cook, Tarn - mi Medd, Deborah Logue, Laurie Wharton and Rhonda Stadelmann. A puppet py, a health play and French play were performed. A gymnastics routine was en- joyed by all. A St. Patrick's Day reading and two Irish songs completed -the program. Science Fair winners were: Grade 8 - John Leibold, 2nd and David Spading, 1st in physical; Julie Howson, 1st and Anita Bos, 2nd in biology. Grade 7 - Steven Souch, 1st and Tim Walden, 2nd in biology; Kris Snell, 1st and Chris Royal, 2nd in physical. Grade 6 - Lori Leibold, 1st and Margaret Cronyn, 2nd in biology; Jamie MacDonald, 1st and Matthew King, 2nd in physical. se Blyth 4-H On March 23 the Blyth III 4-H Club held their fourth meeting at Howson's. We had to cook antipasto, Middle Eastern Stuffed Vegetables, Apple pie - Greek style and Mint Tea. We all agreed that most of tonight's dinners were pretty good. While we were letting these things cook we read "roll call" and read meeting four. We ate, then cleaned up and discussed what each person will make for the par- ty. When each person agreed on this we closed the meeting with the 4-H motto. CWL to tale part in mission The monthly meeting of the Blyth St. Michael's CWL was held on March 14. A parish mission is to be held from March 19 to 23 in Clinton. On Tuesday of that week there will be a special Prayer and Blessing of the Sick. Seniors Study MVCA Work A potluck luncheon was held by the Blyth Swinging Seniors in the Memorial Hall on March 23. Marie McClure sang two Irish songs and led the seniors in three favorites with Ruby Philp accompany- ing. Bill Manning, chairman of the Advisory Board of Maitland Valley Authority districuted materials, in- cluding pamphlets and maps to explain the operation of the authority and showed an excellent film on floods in southern Ontario and advis- ed everyone to try to be good caretakers of the land in our timei. Cards were then played to finish the . oon. The nexi ting is to be on April:26 at 12 noon for a potluck luncheon. The guest speaker will be George Cowan. Blyth's oldest citizen 99 -year-old Mrs. Edith Logan had the honor of cutting the gold ribbon to open the new ank of Commerce building in the village. Bank manager Dick Poore and village Reeve Tom Cronin also took part in the historic event. Heid on Saturday the open house was attended by more than 50 local residents. Branch Manager, W.R. Poore spoke words of welcome to a large audience and introduced William Benedict, Regional Office Superintendent. Mr. Benedict commented favorably on the new facilities and gave a brief history of the Bank's impor- tance over the years. After a tour of the new facilities, visitors enjoyed a light lunch. Blyth peewees receive trophy The Blyth Peewee team participated in Young Canada Week at Goderich last week. Blyth wen their first game against Wellesley 1-0 in a close game. Also in their second game Blyth scored a 3-2 victory over Bel- mont in sudden death over- time on a breakaway goal by Larry Nanking. In the semifinal game against Em- bro, after two disallowed goals, Blyth lost 4-3. Baintons swept the best of three final two straight. Radfords led 5-3 at the end of the second period but Baintons stormed back with four goals in the final period to gain the victory. Jeff Lockridge scored his second goal of the game with 59 seconds remaining to break the tie. Other Bainton scorers were Barney Stewart with two, Bob Hillis, Brian Shiell and Bob Mammersteeg. Ken Ritchie scored twice for Radfords with singles going to Ron Cook, Ron Hunking and Jim Kellar. Members of the Bainton team include Gary team played host to St. Lambert Peewees from Quebec. People report Kevin and Trevor Logan of Wyoming spent a few holidays last week with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. George McGee and Mrs. Dorothy Logan. During the week their parents Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Logan visited at the same homes and the boys returned home on Friday with their parents.
