Vanastra finally has two 4-
H dubs. Vanastra I has
seven members and
Vanastra II has six .
The first meeting of the
Vanastra II 4-H Club was
held at Diane yan's on
February 7. The members of
the club held an election for
officers. They are: President

Cadets venture to Cedar Springs
Tonight ( Wednesday) a
lawyer will be at Vanastra
talking to the Cadets about
Legal Rights.
On March 11 a Teen Dance
will be held at the Cadet
Building in Vanastra. On
March 13 a Drill Competition
is going to be held in Guelph.
On March 19 a Live Band
dance will be at the Cadet
Building. All of the profits
for the dance will be used to
pay the heating expenses.

Last Friday and Saturday
some Air Cadets went to
Cedar Springs to shoot semi-
automatic F.N.'s.
A Rummage Sale was held
on February 5 and raised
$200 for heating expenses.
On April 8, 9 and 10 the
Cadets will be going to
Grand Bend for the Ontario
Air Cadet Weekend where
about 2,000 Cadets will at-
tend.

Orion 843 Squardon is Cap-
tain Rice and Second in Com-
mand is Lieutenant T.
Eckenswiller. Mr. J. Elliott
is Stores and Mrs. J. Elliot is

Mr Cadets is held every
Wednesday at 6:45 pm to
9:15 pm and students
between the ages of 13 to 19
can attend.

astra 441 elections held
The Vanastra l 4-H Club
held their second meeting at
the home of Judy Mellor on
February 9. Six people at-
tended the meeting.
The club held an election
and the officers are: presi-
dent, Brenda Hoy; Vice
President, Tracey St. Louis;
Treasurer, Sheila Maxwell;
Secretary, Tammy Ball;
Press Reporter, Shelley
Maxwell.
The group cooked food
from different countries
such as Ireland, and French
Canadian food.
The Club thanks the
Vanastra and District
Lioness Club for donating $25
to the Club.

The second meeting of the
Vanastra II 4-H was held at

14. Kim Doulding's Global
Gourments won first for title
page. They made the deli
special Potato Pancakes and
Dutch Peach Kuchen. They
talked about food from
around the world.

Hensall 4-H news
The first meeting of Hen-
sall 4-H Club was held on
February 1. The leaders are
Mrs. Nancy McCullough and
Mrs. Janeth Sangster. Of-
ficers are: president, Helen
Jacobs; Vice -President,
Christine Rose; Secretary,
Kathy Jacobs; Reporter,
Karen McCullough;
Treasurer, Tammy Bell.

Scotland, England, Ireland,
France, and the
Netherlands. The project is
Ontario Heritage. The club
will be trying recipes from
many different countries
starting with pumpkin soup,
made by the Canadian In-
dians. There are 12 members
in the group.
Vanastra II 4-H Club was
held at Sandy McLachlan's
on Feb. 21. We made Bread-
ed Pork Chops, Cherry
Sauce, Vegetable and
Macaroni Casserole, and
Plum Dumplings. We talked
about food from around the
world. The next meeting will
be held at Sandy
McLachlan's on February
28th.

February 16, the annual
Public Speaking Contest was
held at the Vanastra Public
School. Six young people
competed.
Jennifer Pollock
represented Grade 4 and
spoke about Girl Guides.
Cathy Cudmore from Grade
5 outlined the activities of
Calvinettes. Ginger
Gallagher from Grade 5
enlightened the audience by
describing sled dog racing.
Three Grade 6 pupils also
competed. Colin Thomas
described his room at home.
Heather Brownridge ex-
plained curling and Alison
Jeffcock took the audience on
a trip through time.
The judtes this year were
Mrs. Margaret Airey - E.S.L.
teacher at Conestoga
College, Miss Judy Mathers
from Wingham and Mrs.
Vianne Culbert from the
Vanastra Public School
staff.
Alison Jeacock took first
place and Heather
Brownridge placed second.
Both of these young ladies
represented Vanastra Public
School at the Clinton Legion
on February 23.
The teachers at the
Vanastra Public School have
also been busy the past two
weeks. Workshops have been
held after regular school
hours and most of the staff
have taken advantage of the
educational opportunities.
Many of the staff are in-
volved in the Computer
Academy. This educational
experience is being offered
by TV Ontario for the next 12
weeks. Programs are aired
each Wednesday evening
and repeated on Saturday
