The election of officers was held during the first meeting and results were: President, John Lawson; Vice President, Helen Kolkman; secretary, Mar- jorie Siertsema; press reporter, Robert Kolkman. At the first meeting members discovered that sound choices mean max- imum satisfaction from in- come. Members also discussed their goals and how to achieve them. At the second meeting the topic was assets and liabilities. At the third meeting they discussed income and ex- penses and also had to keep track of income and ex- penses for one week to learn spending habits and how to change them if necessary. At the fourth they looked at the partial budget. During all four meetings the 4-Her's worked on their case study and will give a presentation on a later date. Ushers were John Cartwright, Larry Gross, Russell Nesbitt and Gary At a special meeting of Hallett Township Council on Feb. 14, council gave a total of $850 in grants towards various organizations. The council gave a grant off $250 each to the Blyth Centre for the Arts, the Seaforth Agricultural Society and the Central Huron Agricultural Society. They also gave $50 donations to the Canadian Heart Fund and the St. John's Ambulance. Council refused to give a donation to the Huron County Historical Society. In other business council passed a motion to have stop signs ere -ted at all roads leading into the Hlett Wildlife Area. Council also approved a tile drain loan for J. Anderson, Lot 8, Concession 10, for $15,000, subject to township bylaws and availability of funds. Council instructed R.J. Burnside and Associates to call tenders for the Hulley Drainage works; the con- tractor to supply the material. A motion was made by co}incil to amend a part of bylaw 1982-31 pertaining to the salary of the Clerk - Treasurer for 1983. The salary was adjusted to $20,160 per year, an increase of five per cent over 1982. Council authorized that B.M. Ross and Associates prepare plans for a concrete bridge structure to be placed at Lot 1, Concession 14 of Hullett. The next meet is Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. 4-ll'ers Study Food Heritage The Londesboro III 4-H Club held its first meeting Feb. 14 at Marjorie Duizer's. This club is entitled Ontario Heritage. Members made Irish Soda Bread and a variety of foods such as Anglesey Eggs, Scotch Eggs and Maple Bak- ed Apples. Club officers are: Presi- dent, Scott Millar; Vice President, Cheryl Bromley; secretary, Laurel Duizer; press secretary, Jennifer Sottiaux. News from The Cheerio Club The Cheerio Club met on Feb. 16 at the home of Vietta Hoggart. Mary Longman corducted the meeting and minutes of the last meeting and treasurer's report were given by Dora Shobbrook. The draw donated by Vi Burns was won by ,Teth Knox The Meirch 16 meeting, with Group 4 in charge will be held at the the home of Beth Knox. Vietta gave a reading and a contest was won by June Fothergill. After cards, lunch was serv- ed by Vietta Hoggart and Mary Longman. Miss Evelyn Waikom and Mrs. Doris Snyder of Kit- chener visited a couple of days with their sister, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Vodden and Mrs. Dora Shobbrook visited on Thursday with their brother Fred Vodden in St. Joseph's Hospital, Lon- don. Mrs. Bob Burns spent Monday in London with Mr. and Mrs. Colin Paterson and ors Katie. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee spent the weekend in Toron- to with their daughter : < ver- ly Lee. A large number from Londesboro enjoyed the "Disney on Ice" ff skating carnival in B1 on Friday night. There are 14 from the community members of this skating club. Remember W.I. cards on Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. Curling In the past years Hullett Central grades 7 and 8 have gone to Vanastra Curling Rink. On Feb. 18 in the after- noon the Grade 7 class went curling for the first time and will be learning the basic skills in curling for the next three Thursdays in February. Reporter - Lori Bromley Carousel Tours The group Carousel fours visited the junior classes and put on a play called "First People," on Feb. 16. They returned the following day for Grades 4-7 although the Grade 8 class was curling. Some of the students par- ticipated in the play. Grades 4, 5, and 6 from West Wawan- nosh school cavae. The topic of this play was "A place to grow" on the Loyalists of SUPER SPECIAL Canada. There were five ac- tors and a stage director. Everyone enjoyed it thoroughly. Reporter - Kelly Vodden Slides Recently the Grade 5 and 8 classes of Hallett School have been studying the lands of Australia in their Social Studies and Geography classes. Because these ('lasses are studying about Australia, Hullett School ar- ranged for Mrs. Beulley to show slides on her two trips to Australia. Both classes en- joyed the slides very much which were shown in Mr. Millson's Grade 8 room. pupils hope Mrs. Beulley return.
