Hold a ' •udoir shower for
the bride — at gives friends a
wide range of gifts from a
bretty, but inexpensive
athroom glass to an
elaborate nightgown, as well
as things which can be made
and will brighten the dress-
ing table in her first home.
For example, create a
pretty organizer from some
mace and vegetable cans.
lect cans of different
heights and shapes and give
them several light coats of
I{rylon Glossy White. Then,
decorate them with lace trim
and glue them together in an
attractive arrangement to
hold combs, brushes, and
jewelry and if desired some
dried flowers.
A feminine and useful tray
can be made from an inex-
pensive or even a discarded
picture frame. Remove the
glass and back and spray the
frame. Insert a cardboard
tightly wrapped with a pret-
ty pale print fabric glued
over it, cover with the glass
and edge the frame with
lace. Stiffen lace by brushing
on a mixture of three parts
Elmer's Glue -All and one
part water. Add brass knobs
on bottom for feet.
Convert a box frame into
an appropriate setting for
the honeymoon picture by
adding a cardboard frame
padded with cotton batting
and covered with satin and
lace_ Run the lace through a
glace and water bath ( three
parts Eimer's Glove -All and
one part water), drain ex-
cess so it isn't dripping and
drape on top of the satin.
A few added tips for mak-
ing these articles: in coating
laces and rims, stroke the
glue/water mixture on with
a small brush, using short
strokes, to avoid getting it on
the paint or satin. Excess
glue can be wiped with a
damp tissue or cotton swab.
Let trim dry thoroughly
before handling further.
For protection and a
porcelain -like shine, apply
several light coats of Krylon
crystal clear acrylic to
painted items.
An easy way to apply lace
and trims, particularly if
you want to gather the lace,
is to apply a line of Elmer's
Dip 'N Dab to the object and
then work the trim on top of
it.
After lids have been
removed from metal cans,
make sure that the top edge
is free from metal burrs by
running the handle end of a
large screwdriver around
the interior rutin. When
decorating, attach a piece of
ribbon on inside top edge of
can to cover any exposed
edge of metal.
Bridal colours
originally, blue was as-
sociated with innocence,
hence the tradition of the
bride wearing "something
old and something new,
something borrowed and
something blue" for her
wedding.
Yellow was the most
popular of bridal colors in
18th century America, fol-
lowed by blue, tradition ,.::-
ly the color of the Virgin's
robe.
Lilac, a flowered color,
ranked as third most pop-
ular.
It was not until the Vic-
torian age that white came
into vogue for wedding
gowns, inspired by the
white First Communion
dresses.
