Mrs. Wilmer Cuthell has been staying with the Mit- chell's since she returned from hospital. They all visited Wilmer in Stratford Hospital on Sunday. Unit Meetings The 8th and 16th Unit of the U.C.W. of Duff's United Church held their meeting January 12 at Mrs. Elisabeth Boettcher's home. Devotions were led by Mrs. Leona McDonald. The Topic was on The life of two missionaries who came from Brazil. Mrs. Marilyn McDonald presided for the business opening with a noem. There was a reception of members by reaffirmation of faith Edna Reid and Dave Overboe and by transfer Marlene Arm- strong, Lynda Kennedy, Penny Overboe, Brenda Thompson and Jim Thom- pson. Randy Shepherd was presented with a Good News Bible from session on Graduation from Junior congregation. A children's chorus was sung by Denise Hulley, Melanie Knox, Sara Lyons, Shelley Merner and Elizabeth Swan. Cheerios Meet The Cheerio Club meeting was held on January 19 at home of June Fothergill. Minutes of last meeting and the Treasurer's report were given by Dora Shob- brook. A letter of thanks was received from the children's aid society for $10. donation at Christmas. The draw donated by Laura Lyon was won by Vi Burns. The next meeting will be led by Group 3 at horre 'of Vietta Hoggart. Cards (were played and lunch was served by June Fothergill and Margaret Good. A get well card was signed by all for Helen Lawson a patient in Victoria Hospital London. Shuffleboard There was a good turn out on January 19 and high lady was Audry Thompson; 2nd high, Hazel Reid; low, Dora Shobbrook, 2nd low, Vietta Hoggart ; men's high, Torn Allen; 2nd high, Clare Vincent; low, Bob Thomp- son; 2nd low, Reg Lawson. Play off winners were Hazel Reid and Reg Lawson; low, Vietta Hoggart and Clare Vincent. Shuffleboard will be played again next week on January 26. A get well card was signed for Helen Lawson . Personals Mr. Don Reid of Sudbury, fiddle champion at Shelburne past two years spent the weekend of January 17 with Mr. and Mrs. Vic Stackhouse and family. U.C.W. Ladies held quilting at home of Brenda Radford on Monday when the C.G.I.T. girls served lunch. Marjorie Duizer was one of the representatives from Huron County at the preview of the rural seminars for vital people held in Toronto on January 19. This seminar was attended by people from all over the province. A similar seminar for Huron - Perth area will be held in Seaforth on January 31. Mrs. Prof. Bill Andrews of Toronto spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wood. The Berean unit of the U.C.W. will be held February 8 in church at 2 p.m. The W.I. card party is January 28 at ti p.m. Attending the Huron, Perth Presbyterial in Seaforth on Monday were delegates Gail Lear and Joan Whyte for general, Dora Shobbrook, Berean and Florence Cartwright Aim - well. Friends will be glad to know Eileen Clark returned home on January 19 from having surgery December 6th. She returned home for Christmas but suffered a stroke and returned to London's University Hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Jirn Scott, Julie of Goderich, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Flynn of Tiverton and Mrs. Jean Scott returned home from two weeks at Fort Myers, Florida. ,unwell Unit The January meeting of the Aimwell UCW unit was held at the home of President Brenda Radford. The meeting took the form of a quilting bee and much work was accomplished. Several ladies had been present in the afternoon devoting their time to quilting and some social fun. Correspondence was read by Brenda Radford and she also reminded everyone that March 4 is World Day of Prayer in the evening. Also Florence Cartwright volunteered to represent the Aimwell Unit at the Huron Perth Presbyterial, January 24. It was reminded that February 6 is the annual meeting after church. Mullett Happenings Visitors From Bible Society On January 17 Mr. Lobb and Mr. Mac- Donald from the Gideon Bible Society handed out Bibles to the students of Grade 5 class at Mullett Central School. The Bibles contained the New Testament and two books from the Old Testament. The two men are hoping the pupils will use the Bibles wisely. Reporter- Mike Radford Science Fair On January 17, Mr. Harrison came to sneak to the Grade 7 and 8 to speak on the science fair. Both grades take part in this fair and if exhibits are good enough, go on to the regional fair. Mr. Harrison gave many ideas on subjects to do on our pro- jects. The winners were: High lady, Mary Holland; High gent, Wilfred Shor- treed; Low lady, Marg Nesbit; low gent, Jim Lawrie. Lost heir will be held next week. wishes were extended to him and Mrs. Cowan for a relaxing holiday in Florida later this winter. Euchre There were seven tables at the Monday night Euchre at Blyth. The winners were: high lady, Lilly Letherland of Auburn; high man, Mary Nesbit (playing as a man); low lady, Irene Glazier of Clinton; low man, Alex Nethery; ladies' lone hands, Nora Kelly; men's lone hands, Marg McCullough ( playing as a man). Euchre will be held again next Monday night. CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 26, Duffs church elect By Betty McCall Duff's Anna!! al Meeting The congregational meeting of Duff's United Church was held on Sunday following the noon luncheon and the morning service. Mrs. Marilyn McDonald the new treasurer, was voted as secretary. Mrs. Annie Reid was nominated as Recording Steward with Rev. Swan still chairman to the Unified Board. Bruce Clark remains as chairman of the Session. Harvey Craig was nominated as chairman of the Stewards, John Thamer replaces Howard Hack well. Brian Wilbee takes over for Herb Traviss, Doreen Hackwell replaced Jean Bewley on the Manse Committee. Mrs. Margery Ritchie was voted as Alternate Representative to Presbytery. A moments silence was observed for those who died this past year. There were all good reports of each organization. Auditors elected for 1983-84 were Allan Searle and Margaret Craig. Mr and Mrs. Campbell Wey were greeters at the Sunday Worship. Mrs. Margery Huether was organist. The offering was received by Howard Hack - well, Campbell Wey and Rick McDonald. The flowers in the sanc- tuary anetuary were in memory of Mr. William James Bennett who died on Thursday, plac- ed there by his family. Next Sunday worship is at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday School at the same time. Confirmation class is called for 9:00 a.m. Also sacrament of Baptism and dedication of Hymn book and Bibles will take place 17th Boundary The first meeting in the New Year for the 17th and Boundary unit was held on Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Malinda Johnston with 12 ladies present. Mrs. Helen Williamson Euchre party held Summerhill Hall Board held a euchre party on January 21. With 11 tables of players present. First prizes were won by Norma Ashton and Jack Van Egmond; low prizes went to Gladys Van Egmond and Helen Lyon ( playing as a man ) ; and the most lone hands were played by Lula Merrill. The raffle draws were won by Helen Sutherland, Barbara Thom and Pearl Cummings. The next party will be held on February 4. Fire levels barn WINTHROP - The Seaforth fire department is still trying to determine the cause of 4-Hprojects start again Mrs. Dorothy Sholdice and Mrs. Pat Nolan attended training school in Clinton recently. They are leaders for the 4-H Spring project "Ontario Heritage for Walton 1. Club. Any girl who is 12 by the 1st of March is welcome to take this project, and asked to get in touch with either one of these ladies. Meetings will start next week. Nancy Schade and Lynn Dodds are leaders for Walton 2 in McKillop. elgrave news and notes By Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse The Citizenship meeting of the Belgrave W.I. was held on Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Norman Coultes at the piano. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Mrs. Clare Van Camp. The financial statement and correspondence were read. A donation is being made to the Belgrave Brownies.
