There are two divisions in public speaking at CPS - junior and senior. The date for public speaking at our school is February 15. The date at the Legion when three people go on to read there speech is February 23. by Jennifer Straughan Science Fair It's that time of year for the annual Science Fair Project contest and the students at CPS are buzzing with ideas. Mr- Harrison, a teacher at Turnberry Central School came and showed slides and gave some project ideas. The contest is open to students from Grade 6 to 8. This year there are only two classes which the projects fall under: Physical and Biological_ The first and second place winners from each category go on to the regional contest. It continues on to county and then national. You can work by yourself or m pairs designing a project. David Andrews and John Lavis won in the county contest last year and got an all expense paid trip to Toronto to compete in the national. It takes a lot of thinking and hard work to get that far but the winner of the county this year goes to Saskat- chewan, as that is where the national is being held. The winners from our school will be written in this column after the contest. by Vicki Peck Volleyball The girls and boys volleyball teams have been practising regularly for the past couple of weeks. They are preparing for the big day. On February 19, the area school teams will compete at Central Huron Secondary School. • _ Getting up early in the morning, giving up part of their lunch hour and staying after school is all part of practising. They practise bumping, volleying, sliding, setting, spiking and serving. The girls are being coached by Mrs. Elliott and the boys by Mr. Lyon. Both coaches are pre, ;.ring their teams to the best of their ability hoping they'll win. by Vicki Peck About the Blind On January 12, Ed Kincaid came to CPS to talk to the students from Kindergarten through Grade 8. He talked about his blindness and told how the Lions Club spon- sored the training of guide dogs for the blind. A guide dog is a great asset to a blind person as it gives them in- dependence and freedom. by Dianne Batkin Curling The Grade 7 and 8 students are curling at Vanastra in the last two weeks of January and the fir st two weeks of February. The students will be supervised by Mr. Tremeer, the in- termediate gym teacher of our school, as he does a bit of curling himself. by Dianne Batkin Guide news Guide News The 1st and 2nd Brownie pack held a fly up with the Guides.
