Trevor Ritchie trains the seven-year-old gelding by Every Ready - Miss Bar Key by Darneau, who has also been third in his only other start in 1983. Lifetime R.J. Ready has earnings of $81,593. Merrywood Bojo was third in a 2:06.1 mile the same night fur Frank Cook and Nancy Holmes of Clinton. Dangerous track condi- tions caused the cancellation of all but the first two races at Western Fair Raceway in London on Monday, January 10. Cor Samson, a 1978 black horse by Boy Colony - Armbro Jen by Stars Pridt *in took a new 2:05.1 record in 1982 with earnings of over $7,800 from one win, three seconds and three starts. Lifetime he made over $14,600 to date. At London on Friday, January 14, Lu for Lebelle, owned by Verdun and Lois Vanstone of Benrruller, won his first of the year in 2:06 in the eighth, with Miss Kelly Rose fourth for James D. Taylor of Hensall. Shadows End Run, owned by Bruce Dupee of Clinton finished second with his son Wayne driving in a 2:06.3 mule in the seventh, with Gerry Roebuck fifth with Rustic Helene for Charles Brindley of Goderich. Randy McLean took fourth with Shi French Girl for Lionel Kloss of Goderich in the third. Early Dol finished second in a 2:06.1 mule for Wm. G. Boker and Robert E. Caldwell of Hensall in the fourth. On Saturday afternoon at London, Johnny Freight, co- owner! by John Lester of Forest and Ken Parke of Varna, won his first of the year in 2: 07.4. Clinton Legion teams compete By Brian Atkinson Clinton legion Branch 140 is doing well on the Sports Scene lately. On January 15, two Bowling Teams com- peted in a Zone Roll -Off. One Team was successful and goes on to District on February 26 in Owen Sound. Also on January 15 a team of four Affiliate Cribbage Players consisting of Gary Armstrong, Jack Spearin, Bill Marsh and Gary Alexander played at Zone Level. They were successful and advance on to District on March 12 in Listowel. Zone Darts Was played on Nov. 27. We have been in- formed that two Teams and one Set of Doubles qualified to go on to District on March 5 in New Hamburg. Good Luck to all the Winners advancing. Last week's Euchre'Scores were, High Score, J. Flynn 85. Lone Hands went to C. Brandon with 6. J. Turner had low score of the week with 52. Results from Mixed Darts for last week were, High Couple Rosemary Arm- strong and Lloyd Butter. Ladies' High Score went to Karen Greidanus with a "123". Men's High Score was taken by Terry Hollinshead with a "144". Low Couple was Cecilia Edgar and Don Armstrong. The Bayfield Arena is a busy spot with a fail curling schedule this season. Mixed curling with two draws takes place each Sunday evening. ( George C,lxpman photo ) First round of Huron Cup a The first round of the 1983 Huron Cup Sno-Cross was held Sunday at Holly Gully. In the Sno-Cross, com- petitors challenged the snow-covered cross-country style track which provided thrills and spills for spec- tators as well as those com- peting. Not to be outdone the 3 wheelers added to the ex- citement making their debut in the winter fun. Next Sunday January 23, the snowmobiles and 3 - wheelers will be going at it again in the 2nd round of the 1983 Huron Cup Classic. The final round will be held on Sunday January 30th when the overall point leader will be awarded with the Huron Cup. Everyone discovered how unfit they were but never- theless thoroughly en loved the exercise and cameraderie of the evening. Before the dcame, Xi Epsilon Beta chapter met at the home of Linda Meade for a brief business meeting. Vivienne Roy reported that the new Regal catalogue had arrived and that the chapter had made a substantial profit from the fall orders to assist in service projects. Plans were announced for a Valentine social for both chapters and hostessed by Xi Epsilon Beta. Founder's Days plans are formulating and a committee meeting will be held in February. After the volleyball game, everyone returned to Nancy Anstett's for lunch and a visit. Thanks to Zeta Omega. On January 15, husbands and wives gathered at the home of Betty Jo Cudmore for a fondue party with a gourmet menu. Betty Jo even bought a new fire ex- tinguisher for the occasion, but, luckily, did not have to use it. After everyone's appetite was satiated, a sing song and jam session developed with the newly formed husband's band and female vocal section.
