has been decided to take
steps to commemorate in the county
of Devon the brilliant military services
rendered by ,General. Sir Redvers Bul-
ler, V. C., during a period of 42 years.
The movement has no party bias, and
its sole object is that stated. A com-
mittee has been formed with the Mayor
of Exeter as chairman, and it has been
decided. to accept subscriptions to a
Shilling Fund from all parts of the
Empire.
The nature of the Memorial must necessarily
depend upon the amount of subscriptions re
ceived, but the following hrtve been suggested :
—A statue to be erected at Exeter ; a snatme to
be erected at Plymouth Hoo; a conValescant
home for aoldiers at Crediton, (Sir. Redvers
Buller's birthplace.)
Subscriptions which may consist of any num,
her of shillings can be remitted direet to the
Hon, iieaeuror or to either et the Hon. Snore.'

A novel patent case was decided by
Mr. justice Burbidge in the Exchequer
Court, at Ottawa, on Saturday. The
suit; was between two egg dealers, Mel-
drum vs. Wilson & Co. The defend-
ants employed a solution of hydro-
chloric acid, to remove from pickled
eggs the deposit of carbonate of lirne
that forms upon them when. being pre-
serva1 in a pickle of lime -water, The
defendants were the first to use the
process, and to discover that it could
be used with safety. No particular
directions were. given by the defend.
ants in their clean for the patent as to
how the process of cleansin e the eggs
should be carried out. The plaintiff,
Meldrum, is also engaged in the egg
business, and he moved to set aside
the patent, on the ground that de-
fendants had shown nothing in the
mode of employing such solution de-
manding the exercise of the inventiye
faculties. Mr. Justice Burbiclae de-
cides that there was no invention and
that a patent for the process could nct
be sustained.
