here in a quiet. and half hearted avay.
The majority of business blaces were
open, and those who did take -a day
oft wandered about aimlessly, as there
a -as no attraa:tions of any kind, save
hunting in the woods. As a holiday
the day was a failure in Exeter,

papers on missionary work besides
solos, quartettes, etc. The visitors
were afterwards served with refresh-
ments, and all together a, very pleas-
ant time was spent, and with profit to
those present.
HOUSE or. Rnpian.---On the lith
suet, the House had been open to in-
mates for six years, and the success of
the institution is being demonstrated
every day, and most of the prejudice
against it leas died out. This is due,in
part if not altogether, to the excellent
management of Mr. and Mrs. French,
who have demonstrated the possibility
of making an institution of this kind
comfortable and horselike to the full-
est extent, Over 11,000 visitors have
registered since the opening of the
House ; on a holiday no less than 300
visitors have called, and it is a very
common occurrence for 75 persons to
call during an ordinary afternoon.

he has secured.a situation.

Auditor, is in Huron County spending
a week auditing and inspecting the
books of the various municipalities of
the county.

Rev. J. R. Gundy, of Strathroy,
preached in James st. church on Sun-
day a.m., and in the Main st. church in
the evening. He appeared in the be-
half of the St. James church, Mon-
treal, soliciting aid to liquidate the
debt against that fine church property,
The response to his solicitations was
liberal in each case. Mr. Gundy's dis-
courses were appreciated by his many
old friends here.
