The anieu:al meeting of the South
Huron Farmers' Institute was held in
lieneoll, June Gth. There was a fair at-
tendance of Fanners, many drawn no
doubt in ex eetations of getting new
pointers on the subject "New u.ethnds
and appliances on the farm"; in this,
however they were disappointed as
Professor Reynolds did not arrive un-
til some time after the meeting was
disndssed. The, livery loan who drove
hint from Seafortli, getting lost in
Tuckersm.itb, a eircutustance very
much regretted by the Professor as
well as by the !people. The chair was
taken by President :Moffatt, who in
his opening address threw out some
valuable suggestions regarding the
advantages which farmers might se-
cure for themselves bymeeting to -
inether and discussing questions infect-
gtheir common interests and by
acting together secure abetter recog-
nition of their rights hi' the matter of
legislation.
The report of the executive commit -
4 tee was read' showing that ten meet-
'i.e}Iahad be ten held during the x+. tr

membership for the year is 239. Tbe
income for the year is $131,10 and the
expenditure, $270,29, showing a deficit
of over $13e. This gait was very
y
properly thought too fast and sure to
exhaust the bank account (which how-
ever with cash on hand still =bunts
to $152,19) so a more moderate pace
was resolved upon. For the incoming
year five meetings only will be bell,
at Brucefield, Exeter, Bayfield, Zurich
and Crediton. These will be addressed
by able and practical farmers and
others, autism great deail of useful and
much neet)ed intormation imparted.
The best farmers can and do attend
these meetings with profit. Oan the
' less proficient afford to stay away?
.A. letter was received from Mr
Oreelman, Superintendent Farmers'
l Institute, suggesting that next year s
1 annual meeting be held in an orchard
where instructions would be given on
spraying, grafting and budding. The
nstructions along these lines would, it
is thought, do good. One sprays with
is mixture toastveate and finds no bene-
fit. Another with a mixture too
strong which burns the leaves and
both are loath to try again. The
matter was left in the hands of the
new board of directors.
The election of directors resulted as
follows:—Usborue, R Delbridge, J. T.
Allison.; Stephen, S. Brokenshire, W.
