Council met June Ist as Court of Re-
vision of assessment roll for 1901.
There were no appeals ; so after the
correction of a few triffipg errors the
assessment was confirmed and the
-court closed.

proved. '
It was decided to repair the old hall
.and not take any action in the mattdr
tof building a new one at present.
Accounts amounting to $357.80 were
;passed and orders issued in payment

Basses.- A large percents a of
our neighbors Attended the Bethel
anniversary last sabbath. Zion are
baying theirs a. week from next Sun-
day. and the Freewill anniversary
will be held two weeks from next San -
day, when the Rev. Mr. Milyard, of
Main st. Exeter, will preach both
murning_and evening. -The weather
of this week has been a great draw-
back to the farmers, still crops are
very encouraging and promising. --
Mr. Jos. Morley has disposed of a. tine
lot of his horses, but has purchased
some fine ones and added then to his
number. -Mr. Walter Barry, who has
been workingfor air. Kehol's is now
engaged at Mr. Kelly's shingling his
barn. -Miss Ethel Milson. spent last
Thursday in Centralia, the guest of
her aunt, Mrs, Robert Trouthern.-
The Centralia hog merchants were
around here but made a poor fist of
the whole concern. Many of our
enterprising farmers are erecting new
wire fences, which will add much to
the imprgvement of their farms.

BRIEFS. -Miss Lou Zapfe returned
home from Detroit, where she has
spent the past six months, -Glad to
see Mr. Bruce Bossenbury around
again after beingon the sick list for a
few days. -Mr. oundtree and family,
of London, are outing for a couple of
weeks here. -Miss Punchard spent a
couple of days last week under the
parental roof, Seaforth.-Mrs. Walk-
er, of Exeter, returnedhome on Wed-
nesday, after spending the past week
with her daughter, Mrs. George Down.
-Miss Annie Disgardine is on the
sick list at the present, also Mrs. G.
Graville.-Mr. Ware:Oliver, sr., and
Mr. Wilson, left here on Wednesday
for Montreal, and from there they
start for Old England, en route by the
Allan Line. This is the seventh time
Mr. Oliver has crossed the briny ocean.
-Mr. Jas, Fergusou,'ef Revelstoke,
accompanied by his sister, Mrs. Craw-
ford, of Toronto, are visiting friends
here. -Mr. Hugh Spackman was in
the village last week on businees.-Mrs.
Thos. Ibbison, of St. Thomas, left here
for her home, on Monday, after
spending a week with her father,
Ware Oliver. Mr. Lawson, of London
fis here this week looking after the
building of the cottage in Maple
Grove.

old livery manager, has disposed of
his entire stock and stables to Mr.
Alex. Atkinson, of this town. We

vesary services at Bethel, near.
Granton, Sunday, and not withstand
the inclemency of the weather, the
attendance, was good. This=week the
Re, gentleman is at St. Thomas, he

representative of the Methodist church.
-Revs. Messrs. G. Jewitt and Long,
remain here for another year.- Mrs.
E. Sheffer has added a handsome soda
water fountain to her restaurant
equipment. --Miss Boulton, who has
been in Mitchell for the past year re-
turned to Hensall last week. -Mr. and
Mrs. W. R. Hodgins, were iniSeaforth
on Saturday. -A petition was circulat-
ed this week praying thee the Council
provide for a system_of raising funds
for street watering.- T. Murdock's
colt, sired by King Stanton, is making
fast time on the track and Mr, Mur-
dock is justly proud of the cult. -Mr..

BRIEFS. -Owing to the anniversary
services being held at Roy's church
service was held here last Sabbath at
half past two, when the Rev Mr. Hen-
derson, Kingston, brother of the Rev.
J. S. Henderson, Hensall. preached to
a large congregation. -Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Kidd, Usborne, spent Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. F, R. Hamilton. -
Sacrament will be dispensed in the
Presbyterian church here, on Sunday,
the 9th inst., Rev. Mr. Barker of For-
est, officiating in the absence of any
stationed minister. -Miss Girlie is laid
up on the sick list but we trust to see
her soon restored to bee usual good
health.

pen has gone on a visit to his son
Robert at Zimmerman who has as-
sumed the management of the flouring
mills at that place, on his own account.
The Rev. S. Acheson's family still oc-
cupy the manse but it is understood
his son Thomas will come home soon
to make arrangements for moving the
family to Pembina. Cooper Bros:,
the thorobred Shropshire breeders,
had a flock of some twenty pasturing
on the west end of their premises ad-
joing the bush, which were attacked
by dogs, his own, included, and three
valuable imported ra

and the dry spring many of the old

Kyle has disposed of his Wilder Lee
colt to a fancier, of Seaforth. for a

have purchased the trotting horse,
"Pat" from Mr. Hodgins of Clande-

at Exeter races last month..

Bronson Line, near Blake, in the town-
ship of Stanley, where she has gone to

HURON EXCURSION TO GUELPH. -
An excursion will be run to the Agri-
cultural Collegge, under the auspices of
