bride was given away by her father
at whose home the ceremony was
performed by the Rev. G. F. McOull-
agh in the presence of the near
relatives of the contracting parties.
The bride was neatly attired in a navy
blue gown trimmed with blue'satin,
with a bunch of orange blossoms, and
flowers in her hair. The bride's -maid
was dressed in a brown dress trimmed
with blue, and wore white flowers in
her hair. When the marriage cere-
mony was over the company followed
the bride and groom to the dining-
roomwhere a most sumptuous wedding
feast was .prepared. The presents
given the bride told of the high esteem
in which she was held and their •good
wishes to the young couple as they
found a home'of their own. , A very
pleasant evening was spent millet mus -4

lations of all, and ',1?r. and Mrs. Baker

TELE SPELLING MATCH.—The pupils
of Fairfield school hays adopted the
old-fashioned way of learning to spell,
i.e:., choosing sides on Friday 'after-
noons each week and having what are
commonly known as spelling matches,
until they had become so proficient
that they longed to compare their skill
with some neighboring school and ac-
cordingly issued a challenge to the one
in the village of Crediton, which for
good reasons was declined for the
present. They, however, were not to
be deprived of the pleasure and ex-
citement of ,a contest, for the school
next north of them hearing that the
Fairfielders were anxious for a contest
accepted the challenge, and on Friday, Penhale; Sr, III.promoted to IV, Vera
