Colmar, MEETING • - The Council
met at Granton on November Lith pur
suant to adjournment. The Reeve and
all the members present. A communi-
cation was read from Mr, E. Meredith,
Q. C., township solicitor, re railway
crossing in this township. - The clerk'
was instructed to advise Mr. Meredith
co still press the matter on the atten-
tion of the railway company, and to
take legal proceedings: if necessary to
compel theme to put - their crossings
according to the requirements of the
statutes, and further, to notify thein
of the dangerous condition of their
cattle guards on cons. 10 and 11, and
to havthe same made sufficient to
keep animals from going on to the
railsvay. A number of accounts were
passed. and the Council adjourned to
meet again on Monday, December 4,

day last week tor Honeywood to nurse
her brother-in-law, Dr. Tufford, 'who,
is very ill, with little prospects of re-
covery.- Hugh McLachlan has gone

has secured a position as blacksmith.-
The annualmeeting of the Bible So-
ciety was held in the Methodist church

fine, and attendance good, and ad-
dresses by the Pastorsof the three
churches were listened to with mark-

of• the death of Emily, beloved wife of
Geo. Gill, who died at lliotherwell, on
Tuesday of last week in her 43 year.
Deceased had been a resident of Bus--
seidale, for the last 17 years up to
within a month "prior to her death.
Deep sorrow is felt for the bereaved
husband and family.- On Tuesday
evening, Nov. 7th,..a wedding tools
place at the residence of Geo. Urqu-
hart, being the marriage of his daugh-
ter, Mrs, Beard, to David Dow, sr., all
of Fullarton —4- farewell : party was
held at the residence of Mrs. S. Brown
on Saturday evening, previous to the
departure of her neice, Miss McLaren,
of Lanark county.- A. Hodgert has
renovated his shop, which. adds to its
appearance and comfort.

FATAL BURNING ACCIDENT. — On
Tuesday, the'10 months` old son of
Marshall Miller, of this township,while.
playing around the stove, by some
means caught his clothes on fire: Be-
fore rescued, his face, arms, and legs
were badly burned. Dr. "Hyndman, of
Exeter, was called but as the child
had inhaled the flames, and in$amma-
•tion set in, nothing could be done for
the little one, -vho died same evening.

repairing the roof of the frame build-
ing of S. Fraleigh, which had been in-
jured by the recent fire. -J. W. Wood,
furniture dealer, is haying the old
frame structure ab the rear of the store
torn down. He will replace it by a
handaome two; story brick building,
which when completed will be`used as
a work shop and storehouse. -The
examinations were held in the Collegi-

stone who has been home from Brant-
ford for the past six weeks owing to
sickness returned to his labors on Mon-
day last. -A goodly number of com-
mercial travellers are visiting town
every day, soliciting merchants to buy
their Christmas stock in good time. -
A. company to he known as the St.
Marys Natural Gas, Oil, :Mineral and
Development Co., has been organized
in St. Marys, with a capitalization of
$30,000 in 3,000 shares of $10 each. The
following officers were elected provis-
ionally President, T. McGolrick

Leonarrd`Harstone, with a board of fif-
teen directors, from which the vice-pre-
sidents are to be elected, Six of the
directors were voted in as an
advisory board to act in con-
junction with the officers of the
company in : the;nmatter of leasing of
lands, selling test well subscription
stock and the putting down of one or
more test' wells; for gas and other mat-
ters.
Centralia
The quarterly business meeting of
the Methodist Church was held recent-
ly, and finances were in a very satis-
factory condition, All the old stew-
ards were re-elected with the exception
of Mr. W. O. Huston, who has resigned.
Mr. W, R. Elliott was appointed in his
