noon last, a Mr. Jeffrey, of Drysdale,
was in Exeter in a very anxious frame
of mind looking for deughter, Mrs,

clothing. She left a family of six chil-
dren, the yoengeet of them an infaet,
She is supposed to be slightly dement-
ed. Mr. jeffrey is reported as haying
said that his son-in-law was taking no
steps to ascertain the whereabouts of
his wife.

ber bed in consequence of the injuries.

THE LA.TE DR. ITYNDMAN. - The
funeral of the late Dr. John H yndman
took place on Saturday last. The re-
mains were interred in theExeter,cene-
etery. The funeral was iron) the Tri -
vitt Memorial church, the impressive
service of the Episcopal church being
conducted by the Rev. Mr. Ten Eyck.
Thr funeral procession, which was of
unusual length, was headed by the
Exeter Municipal Conncil in a body.
While passing, along Main street the
blinds on all business houses were low-
ered as a mark ef respect to the mem-
ory of the deceased gentleman. The
doctor was born in London, England,
in 1830,and came with histather's fam-
ily to this country in 1884. They set-
tled at Goderich, where his father was
appointed the first sheriff of the Dis-
trect. In 1844, as a youth, he went to
Three Rivers, Quebec, and commenced
his medical studies with Dr. Gilmour.
In 1848 he wentto Toronto Medical Col-
lege, from which he graduated. later at
the .age of 21, he being the youngest
student who graduated in that year.
in May, 1851, he comutenced the prac-
tice of his profession in the Devonshire
settlement south of this place. While
at Devon lie was appointed the first
coroner of the cOunty. When the
Grand Trunk Railway was opened he
was appointed adviser to the Grand
Trenk Providence Society. In 1855 he
was married at Devon to Charlotte
Quick, daughter of an old resident.
This lady survives him. with five sons,
John, George, Will., Hugh (Dr.) arid
Garnet, also a doctor practising his
profession in Dakota, and one daugh-
ter, E'ditle, at home in this village.
The deceased gentleman had suffered
many years from asthma, and his
death, though immediately due to
heart failure, is attributable to the in-
sidious progress ot this malady. The
