Mr. and Mrs. George Hodgins, re-
turned on Saturday, from several
weeks' visit with their son in Winni-
peg, Man. For a couple so advanced
in years, they endured the journey
well, and the change of climate had a

Their many friends were pleased to
welcome them back.

readers v9ill regret deeply to learn of
the death of Mrs. McDonagh wife of
Rev. W. efeleonagh, formerly of Ex-
eter, wilich occurred at Stratford at a
late hour Teesday night week. She
had been an acute sufferer from cancer
for a couple of years, being a consider-
able portion of the time practically
helpless. She had many warm friends
here, as elsewhere, who extend their
sympathies to Mr. McDonagh. She
leaves two sons and. one daughter,
the latter beingthe wife of W.S.Ding-
man, Stratford.

certainly has a good, service, and the
cost to the people is relatively no
greater than in places having an infer-
ior service. Barring unavoidable ac-
cidents, which bave not been frequent,
the system and attention here is all
that can be desired.

William Porte, postmaster of Lucan
for the past thirty-eight years, died et
his residence at half -past six o'clock
Thursday morning at the age of 76
years. The deceased was one of the
best known men in that district, hav-
ing been the eldest son of .Tames Porte,.
who came to this country from Ire-
land in,1837, and settled wbere Lecati
village now stands, thus being the
original settler on the village site.
William Porte's father occupied many
prominent positions in Liman, and
served for many years as Township
Clerk.

assignment to John Brown, M. P. P.
Owing to remote effeeting the stand-
ing of the institution there has been
a steady run on the funds of the bank
by depositors for several months, the
culmination being the issuance Satur-
day of a writ for $2,289,30, on behalf of
one Of the principal depositors. A
statement by Mr. Mowat shows assets
AS $115,076, liabilitiee as $70,655 giving
a surplus of over $45,000. While this
surplus rimy be reduced in the disposal
of real estate, etc., it IS thought tbat
eventually the depositors Will be paid
in full the amount due them -$52,096.
