Paris, July G.—Despatches received here from Pretoria, South African Re- public, say that the absence of Pxesident Kruger from the meeting of the Execte- 'Wye Council yesterday gave curroney to a report that be had resigned owing to differences between himself and members of the Volkorami. Pretoria, July 25.—President Rrqger • had been absent from the Governinont building since Friday afternoon, and it Was understood that, owing to the oppo- sition shown him by the Executive Counoil and the Volksraad regarding the questions of the Johannesburg port and 1 no deem elite monopoly,• he had arrived as 1.1.,_ enision that he no longer pos- sessed the Volltataad's conficlenoe and threatened to resign. Yesterday, however. a deputation in- cluding General, Joubert, the rice -presi- dent; Heron Schelk and Burger and the cliairman of •the Volksraad waited upon Herr Kroger at the Presidency and indneed hien to attend a secret session of the Volksraad, which lasted over three hours. Meaneviiile an anxious crowd Assembled outside the building, waiting expectantly to learn the outcome of What was regarded as a mementoes debate. Late last evening it was announced that the Tolksraad had finally assured the President that it had the utmost con- fidence in him. It ie understood, how- ever, that a majority of the members of the Read still differ from the President on the dynamite monopoly question. Resignation and withdrawal Confirmed. London, July 25. ---,The Johannesburg correspondent of The Standard says: President Kruger sent a letter to the Volksraad, resigning the Presidency, in consequence of the refusal to give him a free hand as to the dynainite monopoly. He attended the ,neeeting of the Rand yesterday afternoon during the considera- tion of his letter. It is not yet known whether his resignation was conditional. The news was kept secret at Pretoria. The Times publishes, a statement from its Johannesburg correspondent identical with that telegraphed by the representa- tive of The Standard-, and says the in- formation came from an apparently trust- worthy source. .. The Daily Telegraph's Pretoria corres- pondent says: There is no likelihood of the President's resignation, which is nob desie•ed at the present moment in the in- terests of either the Ditlanclers or the Transvaalers. I frequently had sharp pains under my heart that 1 wasfearful if I drew a long breath it would cause death. In going up -stairs I had to stop to rest and regain breath. 'When my children made a noise while playing I:would be Sp overcome with nervousness and weakness that I could not do anything and had to sit down to regain composure. My limbs were unnaturally cold and! was subject to nervous headaches and dizziness. My memory became uncertain and sleep deserted me. "1 have been taking Milburn's Heart and Nerve Pills, and as a result arts very much better. I have improved in health and strength rapidly. The blessing of sleep is restored to me. My heart is much stronger, and the oppressive sensation has vanished. I can now go up -stairs withoirt stopping and with the greatest of ease, and I no longer suffer from dizziness or headache.
