nesday at the residence of the bride's
parents. The nupiel knot was tied by

Loaner' were in Biddulph on Satur-

friends in Biddulph last Sunday.--

with a very painful accident a couple
-of weeks ago, is under the care of Dr.
Hackney, and is doing as well as can
be expected.-- On Wednesday lest the
home of Tames Harmer was the scene
, of a very happy event when his
.daughter Miss Mary, was united in
marriage to Andrew Urquhart, of
Dakota. The bride was tastefully at-
-tired in white organdie. After the
ceremony the guests partookof a sum-
ptuous supper and the evening was
,spent in music, singing, games, etc.
Mr. and 1VIrs. Urquhart carry away
.with them the best wishes of the com-
munity.

of Mitchell and Miss Ettie Ballantyne,
of Hensall were guests at Sohn Mit-
chell's the past week. -Colin Kennedy,
of Seaforth, called on friends iu the
village on Sunday. -Thos. Snell and
wife spent Sunday, visiting Mr. Snell's
mother who has beau ill. -J. B. Jamie-
son is improving, but will be unable to
resume his duties again. -Mrs. Jacob
Wolfe is ill, as is also Jemes Baird, sr.
His son, David of St. Paul, is visiting
him. -Miss Grace Elder, of Seaford),

has been ill with pleurisy, is slowly re-

The newly wedded gave a grand recep-
tion on Wednesday evening, rit the
respective bride's fathers. -The I. 0. F.
gave an oyster supper on Friday even-
ing. Dean Davis, of London, address-
ed the brethren and friends, after
which the remainder of the evening
was spent in dancing. A pleasant
time was spent by those present. -J.

dered his resignation, to take effect at

Tar Canaeavee. - The Carnival on
Tuesday evening was a success, as us-
ual. The attendance of costume skat-
ers was large while some • very' flue
costumes could be seen on the ice. The
two mile skating race was won by A.
Reichertwith G,Manus a good second;
the boy's rano under 15 years was won
by W. Sheffer, Ike Buchanan second;
the boys race under ten years,svas won
by Frank McGregor, A. Busch second.

the winter months here, left this week
for Winnipeg, where he intends work-
ing at his trade as a blacksmith. -Mrs.
G. McMoran, of Chicago, is here visit-
ing her parents Mr. and Mrs. Wee Bell.
-The friends of Mrs. Gavin Ross of
Gowanside farm, near Rogerville, will
be pleased to learn that she is recover-
ing from her illness. --Cecil Rossenedi-
cal student London, is home, having
been called here owing to the illness of

Kydd's sale on Tuesda,y was a success.

visit among Mende in the neighbor-
hood before leaving for the west to
join her husband. -Mrs. Wm. Buchan-
an left on Tuesday to visit her mother
Mrs. Win. McAllister, of Ethel. -Jas.
Delgatty and wife, of Blake, called on
friends here on Monday, on his way to
Centralia, where he takes parr in the
revival services. Mr. Delgatty will re-
turn to Hensall Thursday to take part
in the Epworth League convention. -
John Wren, of Toronto University,
was in the village on Monday. He is
home attending the wedding of his
brother George and MissJa,net Melville.
-Au Epworth League Convention, of
the Hensall circuit Methodist church
is being held in the church here
to -day (Thursday). A splendid pro-
gram has been prepared for the occa-
sion. Rev. H. W. Crewes, of Toronto,
will address the meeting in the after-
noon and evening on matters touching
upon League work. -A song service
was held in the Methodist church on
Sunday evening last. The program of
song and scripture readings proved in-
teresting to one of the largest congre-
gations ever assembled in the church.
-- Miss Kate Hodgins, who has been
visiting in Toronto for some months,
returned home last week. -Miss 'McIn-
tyre, of Ailsa Craig, is visiting Miss
Robertson. - James Stewart was in
Seaforth on Saturday on business. --
Monteith, the Conservative, was elect-
ed in South Perth on Tuesday-, and
some of our more rabid Liberal friends
lost motley on the event. -T. J. Berry,
our esteemed horse dealer, wears a
buoa.der smile than usual ; its a boy.-
Mr.Knapton,of Parkhilevisited friends
in the village over Sunday. -Rev. H.
W Crewes, of Toronto, is a guest at
the Methodist parsonage. -The con-
tracts for the erection of the Methodist
church at Eleven have been awarded.
The edifice will be of modern archi-
tecture, and is estimated to cost about
$3,000. The contract for the carpenter
work has been awarded Robt. Patter-
son, jr., the brick work to R.Cadtriore,
whilejohn Stacey will do the painting.
The plans 3,nd specifications which were
drawn by the esteemed pastor, Rev.
Waddelbare aniong the finest we have
ever seen, and would be a credit to any
architect. It was Mr. Waddell's first
attemptand it was a surpassing effort.
The building will be ready in October.
--Norman Cook, after several week's
illness from la grippe is convalescent.
-Mr. Shepherd, who some months
ago event to England. with stock, re-
turned home on Tuesday. He was on
board a vessel hampered by the storm
and was 21 days at sea. He was ac-
companied by Daniel McColl, who laid
over at Galt on business. He reports
a rough voyage. -Dr. Maediarmid is
laid up with the grippe, but can attend
to the ailments of patients.- -Mrs. But-
ton, of Winghaneis visiting her sister,
Mrs. Dever. -Miss Robson, of London,
is the guest of her sister, Mrs. 11.
Arnold.- Mrs. Nicol Shines, who has
been very ill during the pasb few weeks,
has Sufficiently recovered to be able to
go about the house. Mrs. Gavin Ross
is also convalescing.-Mre. Wm. 13e11
continues very ill. --Miss Maggie Bu-
chanan, who has been visiting her
parents here during the past several
months, returned to Manitoba on

W. E. Kerr and estimable wife enter-

enjoyable evening was spent by all

week of a bunch of steers to Slir.Cough-
lin for a good figure.--Richarde Patton
is iet present engaged framing Mr.
Harman's hall and will soon have it
completed.--Normau 13uchankn is, go-
ing to raise his baen in spring and put
a stone foundation under it He is also
going to put a foundation to it. Also
Patrick 'Keough intends to enlarge his
house and kitchen in the spring. This
will add much to Mr.Keough's premises
and will also help to beautify - the town.
-The roads in this vicinity are very
bad but we hope they will soon dry up
for bicycle riding.

BRIEFS. -We are sorry to have to
report the death of a loving mother,
Mrs. R. Iott. She has been it faithful
mother to six sons and two daughters,
who all are living except one, Alex.,
who died some years ago. Herremains
were placed in their last resting place
on Monday last. -A. very happy eventt
took place here last Tuesday evening,
when our noted merchant tailor, Mr.
George Durand, joined hands in the
bonds of matrimony with Miss R.
Fields, the ceremony being performed
by the Rev. John Orr. We join in and
wish the young couple a long, prosper-
ous and happy life. -We are sorry to
report the death of Mrs.D. Pla,nt,t,who
died very suddenly last week. She
leaves it large family and they are
young and unable to take care of
themselves, . Her remains were placed
in their lastresting pla,celast Saturday
in St. Joseph cemetery. We express
much sympathy towards Mr. "nand, -
Louis R. Durand will start for the
Northwest next spring. -- Matthew
Westlake sold his four year old colt to
P. McGregor for a fancy 'figure last
week. -Messrs. John Dunn and Robt.
Orr,sr.,are under the doctor's care and
Mrs. Slack is very ill. The grippe
catches the ancient residents very
severely.

of .Motherwell, purpose removing to a
warmer climate in the hope of regain-
• ing lost health.•
• Francis Edwards, an old ancl esteem-
ed resident of St Marys is at present
seriously ill and his recovery is doubt-
ful. Mr. Edwards was for some years
a resident of Mitchell.
Miss Jaate, of Mitchell, leaves next
week for the Xorthwest to settle in
Carberry. Miss Jones is very enter-
prising and may go into business until
some better venture loonis up.
John Murphy,evho has been residing
in Seaforth for some years, intends re-
moving to his farm in Hibbere

Sam GRIGG AT CENTRALIA.. -There
was a crowded congregation to hear
Mr. Sam'l Grigg, the converted hotel
keeper, in the IVIethodist church last
Sunday night, notwithstanding the
unfavorable weather. Mr. Grigg made
a fayorable impression and the people
turned out again on Monday night
when a grand meeting Was held and
much good done. Already showers of
blessing are descending, and friends
are looking for great results. Mr.
Grigg will preach every night this
week and also on Sunday next.
Brnen8.-Mr. Delgaty, of Blake, is
visitieg in the neighborhood, arid ad-
dressed the large audience in the
Methodist church' on Monday night
with his old Cane fire. -The futerel of

DEATH or Wsineeer Hestae-One of
the pioneers of this section and founder
of the village of Hills Green, died on
Thursday last at the home of his
daughter. Mrs.Smillie,in Essex county,
at the age of 74 years, with whom he
had gone to reside. Deceased owned
the farm on which the village is laid
