LANDSLIDE_ONNTHE C. P, R, Vancouver, B. C., ran, 8.-A tre. mendons landslide has occurred near Spence's bridge, on the line of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Half a mountain, containing about 200 acres of earth, was loosened by a quick thaw after frost, arm tmmbled into the Fraser river where it plunges through a narrow canyon: Settlers at the foot of the mountain had fled front their homes the night before owing to the big crack appearing in the. precipice above them. They stood on the ad- joining mountains and saw their homes bnried by a mighty fall of earth. They saw the historic Fraser dried up as if by magic, and the diyerted stream, dantnled by the mountain, roar and plunge over the fertile Nicola valley, spreadiug desolation among the highly -cultivated ranches, and joining the riyer-bed a mile below. They saw the mighty ice -jam at the dant rise higher and higher till it reached the mountain tops, and crush- ed to the ground and roared like a live monster in rage; then, strangest sight of all thousands h in h of fish the exposed riyerbed gasping, struggling and at- tempting to leap into the diyerted E Then the Indians, clambering down the bank before the sun had set; vegan to sop up the salmon, and in the dawn of the following day Indians anis Chinamen were ready with their pans taking out coarse gold and nug- ets securely hidden from the miners or hundreds of years by the rushing waters. The harm done by the diver - ion of the Fraser is not yet known, I: it is said to be very heayy in the way of burying highly -cultivated lands hat can never be. reclaimed, LILLIAN'S EXPERIENCE. ow She Kept Trouble, Loss and Dis- appointment from a City Home. At once Lillian came to her rescue at said : "Auntie, for goodness sake o not risk your good garments with lese common dyes ; they are quite seless. I tried a package some time go in order to satisfy my curiosity, and ley gave just such results as I expect- -spoiled my material. When I use S es I want pure dyestuffs, quite free on) grease. Let the suggest the use of the Diamond Dves ; they are safe and sure, and your colors will be just right. Send to the drug store for them and I will assist you in the work." The Diamond Dyes were procured, and part of the afternoon was spent by aunt and neice in making the old things look like new creations.
