BRIEES,-A pretty wedding took
place Tueeday evening at the Davey
homestead, Oakville Farm, Lambeth,
when Miss Rosa Davey was united to
Mr. Edward Robinson, of Hensel'.
Rev. Wm Quance, of Belmont, officiat-
ed. Guests were present from Toronto,
Hamilton, London, Petrolea and Hen-
sall.-Mr. Richard Robinson's house,
-op halt a mile north of Lambeth, was
totally destroyed by fire Thursday
eight about 7.30 o'cloek, while Mr. and
Mrs. Robinson were attending prayer
-o meeting. Cause, a defective chimney.
Mr. Robinson is father a Mrs. J. C.
Stoneman. -J. E. MeDonell is con-
valeseent -The newly -elected Council
met en Monday and appointed officers.
-The "colts" of the curling club were
defeated. by a Clinton team last week
-E. Sheffer was operated upoe for.
appendicitis one day last week, and is
! progressing nicely. -Rey. Kerr's ser-
mon me "Gambling" last Sunday even-
ing was an able deliverance, and was
listened to by a large congregation. -
Miss Dick, millinetof London, is home
to spending vacation. -Business has been
dull since the holiday season. --Some

Registrarship of Huron. -A. Weseloh,
of Berlin,was in toem last week renew-
ing acquaintances. - Miss Jennie

ot the groom's ester, 161 Mill street,
Toronto, by the Rev. J. R. O'Meara,
Thomas William Crowne, of Toronto,
late of London, England, was married
to Lillian Nickle, late of Se. Marys.
The newly-marriecl couple will reside
M Toronto. The bride was well and
favorably known in St. Marys, having
lived some years in the west ward
with her uncle, 1Vin. Hunt. -Rev. Mr.
Knowles, of Galt, will preach anniver-
sary services in the Presbyterian

Mathieson leaves on Wednesday to
take a course in the Upper Canada
College. -Bishop Baldwin, of London,
delivered two very pleasing sermons
in St. James' church Sunday to large

few weeks amongst her 'friends and

BRIEFS. -While cutting wood. on
Monday. Wesley Heywood met with a
very painful accident, which will pre-
vent him from vvork for some time.
He wase,chopping a hinb off a fallen
tree, when the axe glanced and cut a
gash in his boot about four inches in
length. He also received a very severe
wound on bis foot.--Jesiet Bell spent
Saturday and Sunday in Motherwell.
Brown commenced school on
Monday morning, He will attend for
the winter, after vvialch he will take a
commercial course in a Business College
and thensecure an agency. -Miss Edna
Goelholt was the guest of Miss Alice
Miller on Tuesday last. -Miss Ethel

BRIEFS. -- Weather has been very
changeable of late. Some days warm
only to be followed by extremely cold
days. -Roads are neither good wheel-
ing nor good sleighing. -We hope for
a change for - the better.- Our newly
elected township council met on Mon-
day last and transacted the routine
of business. We have an able staff
and look for a continuance of efficient
and economic administration. -- Mrs.
(Dr.) Ravers has been visiting during
the past week with friends in Toronto
and London. The Dr. looks lonely but
is veep laisy these days. -It is with
sorrow we have to record the death of
Lizzie, the fourth daughter of Jacob
rinkbeiner, who resides miles west
Of the village. She was ill but a few
days with the most severe type of
diphtheria. Her sorrowing friends
have the sympathy of the entire com-
munity.-- Geo. Zvricker, our popular
and efficient jeweller, left for Toronto
on Monday last to take a course in
Optics at the Optibal College there.
When Geo,returns he will be a special-
ist in testing eyes and fitting glasses
for same,thus saving the people of this
place a trip to London for such treat-
ment, -Rev. and Mrs. Staebler cele -
rated their golden wedding lase Mon-
day. The children came home and
friends assembled and spent a pleasant
tinee together. We wish the aged
couple another happy year together.

will. -The $. School entertainment in
the Methodist church was agrand suc-
cess, proceeds $50. - Special services
are being conducted in the Eden Meth-
odist chorch by the pastor every even-
ing at 7 p. m. --The Amoral of the late
Geo. Brown took place last Fridaty,the
services being conducted by the Rev.
S. Salton, Mr. Brown was 86 years
old, and was one of the oldest pioneers
in this section of country. His death
was very sadden. Much synepathy is
felt for his aged widow who is blind.

A SuRPRISE. - Mr. Norman L.
Switzer, and household, were taken by
surprise on theevemng of theard inst.,
when between thirty and forty of the
youth and beauty of the neighborhood
came and took possession for a time.
Music, both vocal and instrumental,
and social gameswere the amusements
for the evening. About micheight the
table was bountifully spread from tbe
baskets,which, theyoe eg lad iesbrought
with them. After supper the amuse-
ments were resumed among which
charades were prevailing. Drawing
near the hour of departure,they joined
hands in einging"Auld Lang Syne" and
"God save the Queen" afeer which Mr.
Whaley, in behalf of the household,
thanked them for their sociability and
wished them many Happy New Years,
to which John Essery made a suitable
reply and ended by requesting the com-
pany- to aid hina, in singing, "The're
all jolly good fellows and nobody can
deny.'

night of 81st December, Mrs, Bloom-
field, beloved wife of John Bloomfield,
Esq., in the 53rd year of her age. De-
ceased Was greatly respected by all
who knew her. She leaves live sons to
mourn her death. Her eldest soneTohn
Bloomfield, is general merchant and
postmaster of Mooresville, where she
resided at the time of her death. Al-
though a safferer for some time, her
death was not expected. -The Mama -
bees of Lucan Tent, No. '64, had an

R. A. Coursey, who has been a Sir
Knight Commander of the tent, and

the Council for 1899.

F. Barthel, one of the earliest resi-
dents of Fullartos, died at his home
there on Sunday at the ripe age of Oe

John H. Dempsey of Goderich town-
ship met with a painful accident the
other day. When going dowel the
stairs into the basement of his barn he
slipped and fell striking his ribs against
the corner of a box,
At the annual meeting of school
section No; 7, Stanley, Mr. Joseph
Iludson was unanimously re-elected
secretary -treasurer. Re has held this
position for several years and appears
to be the right man in the right place.
At the residence of the bride's father,
on Wednesday last, by Rev. Mr. Muir,
tiss Annie Reid, second daughter of
Mr. Samuel Reid, Varna, was married
to Mr. Malcom, McNaughton, a pros-
perous young farmer of the Bayfield
Road.
