TO tart. r . e1 on Some Sound Advice front One Who Has Made the Trip, and Knows Something of the Hardships the p Gold Seekers Must Undergo; I the h rush towards w, ds rife goldenold of the Klond ke ere arthousands who are ill -fitted to stand the strain of hn,rdship and exposure, which are in- separable from that trip. Illness dis- ease and death is almost certain to claim Many of the ill:prepared adven- turers, The following letter from one who has undergone• the hardships of the trip, will proye interesting to those who intend going into the desolate but gold laden,north:- S1 ADWAY, Dec. 12th,, 1897. DEAR ,SIRS: -My object" -in, writing this letter is to give a word of advice to those who contemplate going to the Yukon gold fields.. For ten years I have followed the occupation of pros- pecting. timber, estimating and min- ing! and the hardships and priyatious which one has to undergo, are enough to wreck the strongest . constitution. In the spring of 1897 I was stricken with pleurisy,as the result of exposure. I recovered from this, but it left be- hind the seeds of disease whielr mani- fested themselves in the • forth ofj • heart and kidney troubles. Tmanaged to,reach Vancouver, but did not have much hopes of recover - in s I washowever, to ev give g advised, , Dr. William's Pink Pills a trial anat first pnrchased but two boxes. Before these were gone I found beyond 'a doubt that they were helping me, and their continued use "put me on my feet again," to use a common expres- sion. I then engaged to goo to the Yukon country and only those who have made the trip to . Dawson City. can form even the slightest conception. ofthehardships a, that have to be borne in making the trip. Before starting 'I added to my outfit two dozen boxes of Dr. William's Pink Pills and I can honestly say no part of my outfitprov- ed .of such invaluable service to me; and I would strongly nrge every man who goes in to take supply with, him, as he will find the need of such a tonic and upbuilder of the system on many• occasions.. I went in and returned to this place by the Dalton trail, which consists of 350 miles of old Indian trail, starting at the Pyramid Harbor. In going over the trail one has at Hines to wade .through mud niore' than a foot deep, • and ford streams waist deep in ice cold, waters. When I started for the Yukon my weight was only14J pounds, ' p s, and I now weigh 169 pounds, thanks to Dr.William's Pink Pills. I am soon starting;for another tri to Dawson by the ame route. This timf', however, the travelling will be on snowshoes, and you may depend upon it Dr: Williams Pink Pills will again foram part of my outfit. L write this. letter for the two. fold purpose of letting you: know what your medicine has done for me and urging those who go in to take a supply with therm. Every urian, whether he is sick or well, who undertakes the trip to the Ytikon will require some- thing to brace him and keep his con- stitution sound in that country. I may say that my home is at Cooper Cliff, Ont.,wheremy wife now resides. Yours very truly, Jon r PICHE. T35,14 X, ►T The benefit derived, from an adver tisenlent depends altogether upon the number of persons: who read it,. To reach the greatest number of readers at the least possible expense, is a question that .should a considered verycarefully bybusipe-s. igen A thosand small ' bills printedi in Tor- Tor- onto or London, and distributed in this section, would be just as effective as if thc, bill had been printed in town There is not a doubt oubt sheet that, but if s. you want to reach the people in their homes, newspaper advertising is the only successful way. To get the best results use the paper with the largest circulation, and thegreatesb amount of local news. Circulation is the proper basis upon wh ich prices should be fixed. If.a newspaper with a circulation of 2,000 charges $100 per year, then one with agirculation of 600 would be entitl- ed to $30, An advertiser should take these facts into careful ^.gnsideration, when making contracts. Another fre- quent loss to advertisers is in the use of several papers when one covers the ground,. THE Tame isreadby more people in Exeter, Usborne, Ste hen, Hay, the northern parte of Biddulph and McGillivray than all other county papers combined, and an advertise- ment placed in it hill be found the most effectual way in which to reach the people. DEAR SIRS. -Just a year ago I was attacked by inflammatory rheumatism in its most acute form, which totally incapacitated me from pursuing my trade' -that of a tailor -or in fact from doing work even of the very lightest kind, as every nerve in my body was affected. I was in this distressing con- dition for more than seven months, when I commenced to use Paine's Celery Compound. I soon began to realize the beneficial effects of the medicine ; .but my case was an obstin- ateone, and required the persistant use of the Coinpound for some months before T. was able to move about. I aur thankful to say T am sb far recov- ered that I have commenced work again ; and I am very hopeful that by continuing the use of the. Compound a littler longer T shall, please God, be restored to rn'y wonted health and strength again. Surely the medicine that has done so much for me will pprove an equal blessing to others simi- larlyafflicted; and to such I say, “Give Pain's Celery Compound a trial."
