formerly Mies Sadie •'irale,aad daugher
of the late John Vale, of Exeter took
place in Detroit, Mich., on Sunday,
December 20th,. The ` circumstances
surrounding her death are extremely

had only been sick a week. She was
33 years of age and leaves to mourn ber

the load, and when turning plait to
meet another rig, the sleigh capsized
and tamed the load over into the ditch.
Mr. Wood sustained several badbruises
and bad one of his arms broken at the

on is becoming a model moral county,
as only 27 are reported, whereas a few
years ago the number would have
been nearly three times as great, Sea -
forth magistrates bad 4 of them ;
Winghani 3 ; Blyth 8, and the others
scattered. Clinton or Goderich had
none for the quarter. Four of the
offences e ere for breach of the license
act, all these being in South Huron
Inspectorate, and the other offences
were only trifling.
DEATH OF MRS. GILLESPIE -The
death of Mr. John Gillespie took place
on Friday after a long illnsss. Mrs.
Gillespie's maiden name • was Barker.
Deceased with her husband, had been
residents of Exeter for many years.
Mrs. Gillespie had been a suffererfor
years, of ageneral 'decline, but the
past few months she was confined to
her bed. She was a quiet, kind hearted
woman and highly respected, which
was attested by the very large attend-
ance at the funeral. Deceased leaves
it husband and nine children to mourn
her demise-_
W. H.Graham, of St Marys, was in
town yesterday.
Miss Horne is visiting friends in
Stratford and Woodstock.
Mr. Aubray, of Montreal, was in
town yesterday purchasing horses.
Miss Lily Hardy has returned from
visiting friends in Ingersoll and Brant-
ford.
Miss Conti Manning left this week
for London, to attend the Business
College.
John Clatworthy,of Ilderton, visited
some old friends in Exeter last Sun-
day.
Miss Gussie Holland, milliner, who
spent the past season in Alliston. has
returned home for her holidays.
Mrs. F. J. Knight was in London
yesterday attending;- thee funeral ' of
her cmisin, the late Edred:Drew.

Seaforth hockey teams will be played
on the Exeter rink, on Tuesday next,

don." In the evening his sermon on

on 'family" was equally interesting,

Saxon Fitton, who last week dis-
posed of his residence to W. S. Lang,
as reported in these columns,has leased
the residence of Benj. Higgins, recent-
ly vacated by F. D. Williams, and will
reside there until Mr. Fitton's neiv
residence, which he intends erect-
ing at the south end of the village, is
completed.

& Usborne Agricultural society was.
