Ix Poon. FAvort-Tilt agitation for
the separation of Exeter North from
the corporation is not meeting with
much favor, and just where any good
results will accrue to the cot-peraotion
thereby, it is di1lrtnit to conceive.
Exeter North does not receive in inn-
proveinents an amount nearly equal to
what they pay in taxes, and to allow
them to secede without assuming any
liability would he had legislation. On
the other hand the people of Exeter
North do not want separation, They
prefer the privileges now enjoyed
rather than take any risks.
Bore YOUR GIr"rs Now.-ttwould be
wise forethought on the port of those
who contemplate purchasing Christ-
mas gifts to make theirpnrchases now,
rather than put off the inevitable till
the last week or last day beforeChrist-
mas. Besides avoiding the ineen-
r cnienees and ' crushing through the
crowds which always throng the
stores the last day or two, those who
do their buying now will have a better
choice of goods, and will net be liable
to spend their money in hurry and
scurry of a crowded store, only to find
when they get to their homes that
thee bought something which they slid
not want. -

Co. directors by a vote of 8 to 2 have
decided to remain in Brantford provid-
ing they can cone to terms with the cor-
poration. There will be no difficulty in
this. The Plow Oo. want $15,000 for
their old buildings, exemption from
taxes and free water, an 8 -inch main
being necessary for the new works. The
building they will erect is to cost not
less than $40,000, and it is estimated
that the final figures will be nearer
$00,000 than the minimum sum. The
ompany will give $10,000 guarantee
that they will remain in Brantford for
five years, and a $5.000 guarantee for
five years longer. Beyond this period
of ten years no guarantee is given..

FENIAN RAID1V DALS.-Under the
ading, 'Lists destroyed,' the Ottawa
ee Press says, with reference to the
dais to be granted to the yeteraus
IS60and 1870, that, "inasmuch as the
nrinul lists and rosters of regiments
d companies of the Canadian militia
warded to headquarters at Ottawa
or after these dates were destroyed
order of General Herbert, and the
lists for these -services have met
same fate, intending applicants
1 do well to obtain affidavits estab-
ing their services from some of
it comrades, either officers of prig-
s. These will he required by the
ajor-General, in addition to the
n testimony of the applicants
mselves." It way be added all ap-
ations for medals should be address -
to the Adjutant -General, Ottawa.
A SCARCITY OF HORSES. --A Toron-
to paper discourses as follows on the
lack of horses for the European mar-
ket : "A scarcity -of horses is reported
all over Canada. Statistics show that
breeding has decreased thirty per
cent., not only in this country, but also
in the United States. That the demand
has also fallen off it is true, but not to
the sarne.extent. People have become
particular about the class of animals
they buy, !rause the animals are
wanted for 'purposes other than those
to which the ordinary sort were form-
erly put. Strong, heavy horses are in
greater demand than' ever • so are
good carriage horses and well -broken
saddle horses, but for the common
general purpose creature that used to
haul the street cars there is little or
o demand except to draw express
vaeons, and with the growth of the
railway transfer business the express
business has gone into sad decay. It
is safe to say that in the years im-
mediately at hand the price of decent
horses will rise higher and higher, but
still for the "plug' there will be little
demand."
