MxT.• EDrror --It seems really like
imposing upon your good nature es
Well as that of the public, to write
touching on a letter like that Of one
Daniel Stewart, of last week, and I
will not call this •a reply, as his letter
is pot worthy of such for several rea-
sons. In the first place ho does. not
figure as one of the parties in the cane
in which he has impudently interfered
(save as a busy -body and would-be mis-
chief-nxaker,) although he parades and
excuses himself as being a member of
Carmel Presbyter iau Church -a fact
by the way that we question if many
of the members, apart from the few,
the very few, who in my opinion en-
courage and aid hixi i, will feel proud of.
In the secondpiace his piousizealas a
church member (Worthy of a better
'cause) to net me to. break faith in the
settlement of the ease Ibecameaparty
to, as referred to more particularly in
my former letter ,an TIr' TIMES, will
not succeed, even• in the face of his
kindly christiaillaitilits when he knew,
before he writes, my decision in the
matter, and that I am not going to
open up ales case;and expose his false
statements amt. -apparently fine -spun
logic and reasoning, for one side of a
case always appears about right or at
least plausible until you hear the other
side, for when I fight iu a case I fight
in earnest, and when I enter into
peace negotiations I endeavor to carry
out my part as far as I can, and I value
at tlxe present time my honor, and the
general approval of the position Ihave
taken, too much to bo temptedevenby
a good representative of the Arch
Tempter in this -Matter. •
In the third place, the game or the
man who is attacking end trying to
inveigle me is too in significant. Again,
when I do enter into a discussion, 1
would like to choose or meet a foeman
Worthy of my steel, one at least with a
,.good balanced .head and mind that
could act and think intelligently and
independently for himself, and that
would not find it necessary to substi-
tute falsehood for truth, abuse for
facts, and that had established a repu-
tation as a writer higher than that of a
Billingsgate or Fish Market Student.
Nov, it paths pre to have to write and
punish Daniel, and I would not do so
were it not that he was warned to
mind his own business before his "One
who was there letter appeared, buthe
:t he
so bumptious s Ila
r' 1 L 1 )t Utiis,
is becoxx ivagI
and has been for some time, a sort of
public nuisance, and my own exper-
ience with himhimis not an isolated case,
for he is openly credited and blamed
whether right or wrong, for writingin
the past, giving uncalled-for offence to
the Episcopalian and Methodist bodies
by church comparisons, at the expense
of these churches,. and harping in his
writings on one subject, viz., that of
or its
:
Carmel church,(now the church.
members aro nresponsible for this)
and it in fact only hurts the church he
champions in this way; another good
instance of the saying : "Deliver us
from our friends:" • Again, Daniel is
openly charged and blamed for writing
and giving offence to all ourcitizens at
the west end of Mthc village, speaking
of them and the locationof their homes
in a manner, td •sea , the least, that
showed great impuilence on the part
a comparatively new settler in the
place, and a want of good common
sense and decency. He is also openly
accused of writing mean political at-
tacks (rightfully •oee '-wrongfully), and
all in common with his other attacks
without the signature of Daniel Ste-
wart; and we know at least one or two
men who smiled •complacently on his
attack against roe, under "One Who
Was There," but did not smile at the
political attack to .any appreciative ex-
tent. Now, as nave already stated,
it pains nee to have to punish Daniel,
as I do not take pleasure in this kind
of writing, as my correspondence to
the Expositor (Daniel calls it gossip)
for double or treble the time he has
been a resident of our village, will bear
abundant evidence, but there are some
men that you have to deal sternly
with before you `can bring them to
their senses, as politely requesting
them to mind their own business and
treating them respectfully in writing
and otherwise has no effect ; and I
hope Daniel will consider my reproofs
as really intended for his good, and
profit by them, for 'while there is life
there is hope, and that he will also
consider that I have let him off - very
• leniently and without calling him any
names as he did me; and sometime
,when he gets older ami wiser and
indeed with more good common sense,
and can take up some discussion he is
warranted in doing, can call his own,
and has the ability all by himself to
enter into, I will he most happy to
take a next with hie:abut in the mean-
time I hope Daniel will be a good boy,
practising faithfully how to mind his
own business and leave others alone,
and he will, I venture to say, feel re-
warded by how [Ruch more he will be-
come respected than he is at the pres-
ent time; and then in conclusion, for
this letter is already unneh longer than
intended, if he will jest profit himself
by the advice lie gave in the closing
part of his letter, namely, not to throw
dirt, and there is really no ertcuse for
bim ever throwing any, as he can
carry more at every step than any
than I know Of At present, alt will be
well and peace Will reign.

What for?
Because it may save your Life !
How ?
It is the barometer that indicates
1.1.-e state of your health by its
shapes, coat 1a S and colors.
For example? •
.Well, a pointed tongue indicates
irritation and disorder in the stom-
ach and bowels.
The full broad tongue shows want
of proper digestive action.
The diy, pinched tongue is the
tongue of acute disease:
The fissure tongue Proves inflam-
matory action of the kidneys.
A dry tongue is evidence that the
stomach and intestines cannot do
much digestive work.
Coating of the tongue is the re-
sult of intemperate eating and drink -
in The Liver is deranged.
i e broad, pallid tongue shows a
want of alkaline elements in the
bleed. It is a danger signal.
The deep red tongue, generally
diy, shows acid.
Dryness always indicates.nervous-

Extreme moisturr shows the re-
