'To Our Customers and Friends :
For soineetine past we have been considering very carefully, the advisa-
bility of cleclifing against the CREDIT SYSTEM of doing business and have
„decided to dose our books
ON .THE FIRST DAY OF JANUARY' 1896
• and for the future conduct our business on it Strictly Cash Basis. Produse
taken as cash. We are fully persuaded that on a Cash Basis and no other COM
e a ..hierchetit do justice to his customers, as it well known fact that every credit
business has its losses, extra expense in book-keeping and loss of interest on
long standing aceouuts. This extra expense and loss must come out of the
profits.
We are satisfied that there is a universal feeling in favor of doing business
"on the Cash System; that Most people are rtinning accounts more f-roin the
force of habit than from the force of circumstances; and will welcome the
change, provided we show a aubstantial reduction in the price' of our goods.
i3y buying for cash and selling for cash, we can and will sell at lower
prices than ever before, and lower than any credit house dare sell at. 'We be-
lieve that this change will be linuturtlbr beneficial. Every person is looking for
,the cheapest market in which to buy. Many thousands of dollars are sent out
a this county for Dry Goods to large centres, where they do business for
cash only, We claim to be able to place goods before the people of Crediton
• and country, at lower prices that* city stores can, where expenses are so great.
We are going to give it a fair trial and feel assured that every one of our
enustonags will stand by es.
