Montreal, August 5- (Special .)-There were
about 400 head of butcher's cattle 150 calves
and 800 sheep and Iambs offered for sale at the
eat end abattoirto-day. Butchers were out
in largo numbers and so also were the Texas
flies,and while the fleshers were rather slow to
take hold, owing to higher pricesbeing deman-
ded for cattle, a few superior cattle were
bought for shipment to Great Britain at from
4o to 41e per lb, and 40 per lb was nbout the
top prize paid for butohers' stook' Pretty
good animals sold at about 31e per lb. Com-
mon dry cows and thrifty lonng stook sold at
23-4 to 370 and loaner beasts at from 2060 9 e
Per lb There was a fair demand for calves.
good veals saltine at from 35 to 38 each, and
common calves at from 30 to 34 each. Mutton
critters were rather dull of sale. Shippers are
paying from 34 to 34e per lb for good largo
sheep and the butchere are paying from 2c to
34o per lb for the others. Good lambs sell at
fr ma 3275 to 5225 each common lambs from
32 25 to 6.3 65 each. It would seem that the
bestlambs aro not beingbrought to this market
but are sent to the United States markets,
where they realize higherthan are paid on
this side of the line. About all the fatboge
on the market to -day -some 400 bead -were
bought for shipment to the New York packing
establishment In Hull, the price being about 5o
Per lb for fed hogs.
