The nomination meeting for school
trustee at Alin .Craig to fill the vacancy

Bniars.—After an illness of over four
week's duration, Mr. Thos. Carr passed
peacefully away on Thursday evening last.
The remains were carried to their last
resting place in the Methodist cemetery
on Saturday afternoon in presence of a
largo assemblage of acquaintances and
friends, the funeral rites being performed
by the Rev• H. D. Steele.—The Rev. H.
U. Steele, who has been incumbent of St,
Paula pariah for the past five yeard
delivered his farewell sermon -on Sunday
lest.—Mr. H. Brown of Winohelsea has.
rented the farm owned by Mr. D. W,
Dalmage of Palmerston better known as
the Birk farm.—Mr. N, Y, Boyd of Mit:
°bell, was in the village on Saturday last.
—Mr. Sifton of Manitoba, has been paying
a short visit to this province, but has
found the atmosphere too chilly for him,
and having exhausted his vocal powers.

been suggested that he might take Mr. Jeff
McCarthy with him and start a minstrel
show, and with '<r Jeff as leading soloist.

brother's illness and returned to Toronto

Agricultural Society. -The dosing meet-
ing of Eirkton Literary Society for the
present Beacon was held on Monday
evening last. A balance amounting to
about $9.00 was in the trsasury which
was presented to the Committee of Aber-
deen Hall, atter purchasing candy to the
amouns of 75 cents worth, which was
greedily devoured by those present. It
would not have been quire selfish if the
remaining members of the literary society
have been notified to attend.—Our vet
W. R. Cave is on the star path both day
and night the past tew weeks —Bert Bry
aus our fashionable tailor is safely (awn-
ed in his new tailor shop.—The daughter
of Mr. and Mia. Ogilvie aged 13 years
died suddenly on Sunday "last. The poor
child had been afflicted since childhood
and death came as a happy release to her
aufferings. The funeral took place on
Tuesday last. --Mr. Robert H. Robinson
has received word of the serious illness of
his father.—We think some of the pater
families of our yillsge who allow their
youngsters to roam around the village till
10 and 11 o'clock at night would be acting
kindly to their children if they compelled
them to get horse at an earlier hour.
A little child belonging to Mrs. Brec-
kow, sister of Mrs. Wm. Cautelon, West
street, was quickly chocked to death on
Saturday afternoon by a piece of meat.
The little one hail picked up the piece
from some being prepared on the table,
and before the mother could realize any-
thing it hal lodged in the windpipe and
death ensued in a law moments. Mrs.
Brechoty is a resident of Mount Clemens,
Mich , and was visiting her sister.--
