The Cattle Shortage.
Chicago, April 12. -The shortage in the
supplies of 'settle at Chicago,. Kansas Cit',
Omaha and St Louis, the principal western
markets, thus fa- amounts to nearly 270,000
head, compared with ono year ago. The short-
age in pounds of dressed beef since the first of
the year aggregates 375,000,000, or nearly
000,000 pounds a day. The price of live cattle
has advanced about 2 cents a pound;
