The game was a big success for all concerned as the Red Wings took home a sizeable cheque for ,the charity of their choice' and the Paper Leafs were able to turn over $700 for the. Children's Aid Christmas Fund. ,Sup- porters were also treated to some fancy hockey by Detroit while for the second straight year the Paper Leafs left their finesse at home. The Red Wings got off to a fist start as they dazzled the. opposition with' their blade' work and chocked up an early 6-0 lead in the first period. But a team the calibre of the Paper Leafs can not be suppressed for long and before the period ended RQckin Russ' Kenwell streakedrin on his left wing and smoked onepast goalie Mike Kanat. It was a milestone for Russ as he scored his first benei: league goal on his first shot on net and promptly bronzed the puck. Kanat admitted that he was handcuffed on the blistering drive and un- doubtedly word will get around the league about Russ and his smokin shat. The Leafs entered the dressing room after the first period trailing 6-1 but the goal seemed to arouse the team's moxie and as they lay in the, dressing room coughing and smoking, Coach Byrski knew that they would come out on fire in the second, period. As Coach Byrski had an- ticipated his Paper Leafs dominated play in the second period and outscored the Red Wings 5-3. 'Editorial' and Press room personnel led the scoring with two goals each and Brian Rumig .added" a single. The Red Wings' relentless forechecking in the third period paid off as they out- scored the Leafs 4-2 to claim a 13-8 victory. The Leafs got goals from Dave 'W onka' Williams and their final goal came on a one handed effort by Chris Anderson. Coach Byrski was pleased with the efforts of Anderson who was a standout in the Dundas Industrial Hotel League for many years.
