GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY,DECEMBI.R 18, 1975, --PAGE 9
Goderich • town council
received a letter from the
Ministry of Transportation -
and Communication stating
that if the -required Ontario
legislation is passed they will
erect an appropriate sign
brTore the opening of fishing
season banning parking on
highwa 21 just north of
Goderi {,, '
Many fisherman parked
near the bridge" buti will now
he required to. ,park their
vehicles on the Dunlop
sideroad. Unfortunately there
is .no legislation governing
fishing from the bridge but
the ministry claims that with
strict enforcement of the
parking restrictions
motorists will be deterred,
from fishing on the bridge.
The Goderich PUC with-
drew their objection to ,.the
closing of a section of
Cambridge Street providing
that the town will allow, a 30
foot easement along the
property to protect the 27,000
volt Zine.
The PUC want access • to
,repair the lines at all times
and council has now decided
that it may just lease the land
to provide the easement. The
matter will be dealt with
under a bylaw.
A letter , from Marathon
Realty Company of Toronto
advised council they were not
willing to sell a one acre
parcel of land near the beach
but they were prepared to
lease it for five years at an
annual rental fee of $1,800
plus taxes.
The land was formerly used
by Imperial Oil as storage
facilities and 'the town now
sought use of the land as,
parkland. Reeve Stan Profit
said council should not ap-
proach it like Mt. Everest and
rent it simply because it is
there but rather should
formulate some plans for the
land.
The company said there
Would be an option to renew:
the lease for an additional
five years • subject to rent
review.
Council passed a bylaw
Monday night to authorize the
purchase of the McArthur
property at 106 Britannia
Road for the widening of
Highway 21. Purchase price
was $58,000.
Council adopted the
recommendation , of the
Works and Engineering
Committee to call tenders for
the South, Raglan and Keays
Street drains. The total cost
ofthe project is expected to
run as high as $49,750.
