The Goderich Signal-Star, 1975-12-11, Page 11GODE RICH SIGNAL -SS AR, THURSDAY, DECEMIVERITT19. ; k Brun growers (continued from page 2A)' easy for a bunch•of radicalsyto go out on a limb but if it doesn't work what will happen to the producers '' Mr. Allen suggested the. question of the board marketing its own crop should perhaps be discussed in more depth but suggested it might take a separate day long meeting. • 'We are not, allowed to compete with, the dealers' said Mr. Allan: `Either we sell all the beans or none. It ..is possible that our big sales will dry up if we once cross a large buyer or are unable to produce as promised.' Mr. Durand countered that the producers were losing control of their own industry. He said .the dealers demands were becoming greater •and greater because they were confident the board would give ,them whatever they asked for. Richard Erb of ,RR Bayfield who identified himself as 'one of the radicals' said he felt con- fident the board could market the bpan crop itself. Third year directer John Hazlitt of Bayfield said some directors seemed afraid to make' decisions which would bring the big dealers into line. `Young farmers and far- _ mers not afraid of change are what the bean board needs' said Mr. MHazlitt. 'We don't deny dealers reasonable profits but, why should the farmers produce if there's not a profit for him too?' Joe Miller, 'later elected as - a board member,- *told the meeting that he felt the board had -failed the producers. `Last year's meeting made it , clear that the farmers wanted the marketing board to sell the beans for them', said Mr. Miller. •Elected as committee members i for Huron cpunty were Nick ,White, Bev Hill, Joe Miller, Murray Cardiff, John Hazlitt', Richard Erb, Jake- VanWonderen, Phil Durand, BoblAllen, Steve — Deitrich, Wayne Woods and Murray Dennis. As a t%selt the board members asked for support of a jump from si,x cents per hundredweight td 10 cents per hundredweight in the levy charged against prod cern. It was ' • accepted Erthost, unanimously. It was also revealed that $151,240 had been transferred. to the boards operating ac- count from last year's crop pool. One producer said. that while this had ,been going on for some time, he thought it was illegal according to regulations which control the. board.
