The Square to the Court House Chapel. Goderich Legion No. 109 Padre' Rev. G.L. Royal and Exeter Legion No: 367 Padre Rev. George Anderson gave the call to prayer.. Dedication .of , the new colors of the 161st Huron Pioneer Battalion was .15y Mr. Ted Pooley of the . Exeter Legion No. 367. Last Post and Reveille was played, by trumpeter, Ernie McMillan of Goderich. Sunday's ceremony was ADMISSION $2.00 with student card $2.25 without ' attended by about 65 Legion `members., 15 members of the Ladies Auxiliary, Liberal M.P.P. Jack Riddell, Huron County Warden Anson McKinley; Huron County Council members, The Mayor of Goderich, His Worship D.J. Shewfelt; Administrator J.H. Holmesville Walls; •Councillors -Bob Allen, Jim Peters and Leroy Harrison; andother-citizens. A"' 4_H dads The ceremony was for the battalion saw' duty with ,the 58t.h,, 47th, 18th -and 1st regiments, the 43rd Cameron Highlanders and various machine gun companies. The original battalion was disbanded in February 1918. dedicate new colors in the Legionchapel of the Court House, to.repla•ce the old ones of the 161st Huron' Pioneer . Battalion which was stolen about,a year ago. The original battalion colours were presented by a number of the ladies' of the Exeter Soldier Aid Society on August 29, 1915 at Camp Borden. - The Battalion started upor- its organization in Clinton, December 6, 1915. Recruiting took place from men_ mainly from the county. Initial training took place in the. various local towns.; On the 29th of May, 1916,, the battalion was mobilized from Clinton to- Hillcrest Camp in London. In July 1916 they went to Camp • Borden for more intensive training. ' From there with •a strength of 800 men and 35 officers they went overseas on the ;troopship. Lapland. Eighteen persons enjoyed the meal which consisted of hamburg stacks, cheese puffs, tuna casserole, meat ''loaf,' scalloped potetoes, 'tossed salad, jellied salad, raw,- vegetable plate, clover leaf and fan tan rolls, Hungarian Bubble Ring and peaches with cream topping. Bev Mathers, Debbie Harrison. and Christine Burgess had' charge of the' main course and the dishes. Brenda Diehl, Sherry Duff,. Ann k loops and Mary Jean Betties hooked after the remainder of the meal, , , Mary Jean, president of the_ club, welcomed the..._fathers and introduced the club' leader, Mrs. A. Betties. The girls in turn, told what th''ey had made and .provided for the meal. Each introduced her father. Millar, RR 2, Goderich, died .in Victoria Hospital, London last l'hur•sday; He was 64. He is survived by his wife Thursa (Harrison) ; two daughters; Mrs. Brian ( Mary :gine) Wood of Hillsdale, Ont. and Miss Janet Millar of Toronto; a sister, Mrs. A.W, ( Barbara) Burchall,'London; and one • granddaughter,•- Laureen Wood. He was predeceased by his parents Rev. and Mrs. Hubbard Millar and a dayghter, Susan. Funeral services ,were conducted at Harris Funeral Home, London, last Saturday 'by Rev. Max Parker and burial followed in Mount j'leas,ant Cemetery. Mr, Millar was a former member of Kilwinning Lodge, Branch ,109 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Goderich and was a recipient .of the Centennial Medal for'service to his country. RHODES J. Ile was born October. 26, 1908 in' RYugwash, Nova Scotia, He was employed as a welder at Dominion Road Mach•inery until his retirement three years -ago. He was an adherent of North _. Street United Church. He was predeceased by his lie, the form.er, Thelma Ione Lewis on' November ,5, 1970. The couple was married November 2, 1944. He is, survived by . one daughter, Mrs. Herbert ( Nancy) Lyon, London; two stepsons, William and Earl Francis; five stepdaughters, Mrs, Leonard (Patricia) Donkervoort; Mrs. Robert (Jean) 'Jacobs, Mrs. Thomas ( Thelma) ,Newton and Mrs. Ronald (Marla) Forth, all of London; and Mrs. Audrey Hogan, Hamilton; 37 gran- dchildren and 1 , great grandson. 'Funeral service' was Friday, November 28 at Stiles Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph King officiating.' Interment was in Maitland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harry Westlake, Ed Lee, Vic Hey, Don Goddard, Ray Allin and Jini Kelly. STRONG Donald William.Strong of 60 Princess Street West, Clinton, died suddenly at his home, November 23, 1975, at the age of 48. Son of Robert John -Strong and, Aida Grace Strong, he was born, September 12, 1927, in Kitchener. Surviving besides his wife, the' former Phyllis ,Winifred Steep, are seven children: Mrs. Jim (Grace) Escott and Donna of Alberta,,. Mrs. Gordon (Geraldine) Bell, Patricia,, Marjorie, Ken and Bill. all of Clinton. Also surviving are four grandchildren, two sisters and four -brothers: Bob of Winnipeg; Jack of London, Jim of Clinton; Art ..'of Seaforth: Mrs: Gerry (Joyce) Hamilton of Goderich and Mrs. Pat (Marie) Regan of Dublin. The funeral service was held November 26, 1975 at the Ball Funeral Home, Clinton, with Rev, Edwin Nelson officiating. Interment followed at the Clinton cemetery, Pallbearers were -Hans leppington, Steve Layton, Steve Maguire,- Ron Coates, Steve Carter and Paul Hamilton. .
