win two games

.un -1s showed marked im-
rovernent in their play,
winning two games on the
weekend.
Saturday here, the Suns
skated and checked their way
to a 5-2 victory over Hanover
in WOAA league action. The
Suns came out hitting and
established control of the
game early.
First period goals by Mark
Crawford and Paul Day and
second period goals by Brad
Armstrong and David Gallow
gave the Suns a 4-0 lead.
Gallow got his second goal of
the" game in the third period
while Hanover finally' broke
through for their two goals.
Ken Perdue and Gord
Beaton were the Hanover
marksmen.
For the Suns, Daryl Madge,
Brad Armstrong, Mark
Crawford, 'John Thompson,
Kent Feagan, Ricky Young
and David Day were each
credited with one assist.
The victory everted the
Sun's league record at three
wins and three losses. They
have now played each`team in
ttie league once.
The Sun's ,other victory on
the weekend was a 3-2
exhibition win over Exeter.
The Exeter teach is in first
'place in' the Shamrock
League, and the loss to the
Suns was their first of •the
year. The Suns were full
value for their w -in, and ex-
cept for fine goaltending. by
Exeter's Peter Dearing,
might have won by a larger
margin.
Daryl Madge scored two of
the Sun's goals and David
Callow scored the other.
Mark Crawford had two,
assists. Brad Armstrong and
Ricky Youngeach had one
assist. Steve Laithwaite and
John- Kernick were the
Bantam
Exeter goal scorers.
The Sun's over-all . record,
including exhibition games,
now stands at six wins and
three losses.
The Suns played last night
in Hanover and- they play
Saturday in Mount Forest in,
league games.
Sunday, the Suns will be
playing in the London Gar-
dens against the London
Mindr 'Hockey 'Association
Atoms in an exhibition game.
The Goderich Pee Wee and
Bantam teams will also be
paying London.

which is in full swing now.
There are nearly 40
students, from all grades
enrolled at th.e Maitland
Country Club. Doug Bundy
was assisted by two other
teachers, Dave c1oet and
Daryl Carpenter, and a
number of ladies from the
club, to provide initial in-
struction ,nd coaching during
the first two weeks.

got 'two goal performances
from Jirn Bell and Paul
Corriveau to down the
Rockets 5 1 in Central Huron
Industrial Hockey League

The win was t>he., fifth in as
many games for"th'e Mer-
chants as they increased their
hold on top spot' in the league.
It was the second loss of the
season for the Holmesville
squad against one win and
two ties 'which leaves them in
second spot six points behind
the leader.
Holmesville _opened the,
scoring in the'irst period as
Larry Shirtzel. took a pass
from!. Art McDougal and
slipped it by Doug 'Mr. Zero'
F is -her in the Merchants°net.
The Merchants then went on a
scoring rampage in 'the
second period with four goals.
Jim Bell led their second
'period attack with two goals
while Fred Armstrong and
SII stars
thump Hanover
Thank's to outstanding
goaltending and good team
effort the Lakeport Steed
Bantams came "up with an
8-4 win over Hanover - last
Saturday night in Goderich.
In less than three minutes "-
of play, the. Steelers popped in
two quick ones. Goalscorers
were Danny Maillet and Mike
Hodges with assists going to
Roger Lewis and Larry _
Madge:, Hanover .came back
to tie .the. score but before the
first period ended, Mike
Hodges brbke the tie on a
three way play from Steve
Arbour and Terry Kisch.
The second period proved
positive for ,Goderich . as
Steve Arbor and Danny
Maillet combined at . the 21
second mark for' Goderich!s
fourth goal. It seemed like
every time Goderich scored,
Hanover retaliated. But they
didn't get a chance to tie it up
again. -

with a goal. Corriveau scored
the only gpal of the third
period.. with assists going to
Bell and Armstrong
Lorne Raymond scored a
goal late in the third period in
the other scheduled contest to
give Sifto a 4-3 victory over
•'DRMCo.
'Mike Costello opened the
scoring for DRMCo on a pass
froth Jim Kelly. Doug Smith
tied'the game moments later
;and Jim M,clvor gave Sifto a
2=1 first, period lead on a pass
from Glen Ferguson.
Bruce Bowman evened the
score fot DRMCo in 'the
second period on ' an
unassisted effort only to have'
Mclvor send Sifto ahead 3-2
with his secondgoal , of the
-game. Costello notched the
equalizer middl way through
the final ,period and .four
minutes later Raymond
knocked -in the winner.
Then win for Sifto was their
first of the season and along
with a tie moved them into a
tie with DRMCo who .also
. have a win and a, tie in five
outings.
This Sunday night the
Merchants will play DRMCo
in a 7 p.m. contest: while the'
Holmesville Rockets will
battle Sifto at 9 p.m. at
Goderich arena':
nesday afternoon from 4 p.m.
to 6 p.m.

bcturquette downed Steve
Huff 9-3; Jan Ginn defeated

of SOLCA (Southern Ontario
Ladies' Curling Association)
reports that the deadline date
for entries for the Provincial
Competition is December 11.
Playoffs will be slated for
Friday morning, sessions, if
there are several .entries
posted.
The first draws in the
ladies' section, this month,
may appear to be mixed up a
bit; .as the "players have been
switching positions every
game. This inovation will
apply to the November-
Decembelr.draw only.
. The draw -committee hopes
that the experience of playing
each positio.n - lead, second,
vice and skip will assist the
new -curlers to understand the
game a little better The"
more experienced players
have assisted by coaching the
new -comers in the various
positions, and all this adds to
the interest of the game. for
everyone.
The draws will be com-
pleted by the week of
December 15,- and the next
draws will , commence in
January.

Teachers, financiers
undefeated rinks
The Teacher Two team
hung on to an early lead to
edge the DRMCo Plant team
8-6 and remain undefeated in
Goderich Industrial Curling
league action.. The teachers
jumPed ahead of DRMCo 8-1
after five ends but Jack
Kellough skipped his team
back toa respectable 8-6 loss.
The , Financial squad
opened their season with a
winning effort nipping the
DRMCo Office 8-6 in an extra
end. Th6 Financial team took
an early end 5-2 lead but Bill
King got consistent placing
from his office team to come
hack and take a 6-5 lead into -
the final end. The last end
came up a, draw and, the
fin;inr'q) team hit fnr twn
points with their last shot to
elir)ch the -win.
The ' Teacher One. team "
evened their season record
edging the Lions Club 7-4. The
teachers .hit for two high
scoring "ends hanging on to
their lead to leave the Lions in
the cellar.
Victoria and Grey Trust
fielded a team just under the
entry deadline to bring the
total number of teams to
eight. League officials are
anxious to promote a suc-
cessful season of curling and
urge all teams to field ,the -
-.required number of curlers
for their games and to at-
tempt to encourage spec-
tators to the games.
