Lmnpys naughty story
BY DAVE SYKES
Chairman Repeat had called the usual ,
monthly meeting of hes eight trusty
workers on the Wrecked Board. The
workers liked to come as the meetings
were always very nice. •They were
• gc3nerally the same but Mr. Lumpy
always h d an interesting story about
'how well the kiddies played at his rink
and the wrecked director Diamond Mike
usually had two nice stories and'such a
pleasant voice when he read.
Mr. Mike read:stories about how he
thought upames for the kiddies to'pl-ay
and although the stories were the same,
he was nice to listen to: But when the,
stories were finished the wrecked
members sometimes gaye money to
children to buy games or decided 'which
nice boy could work at Mr. Lumpy'§
rink.
However, this night -10r, Lumpywasn't
very happy and his story told how I)oc
Jas was messy in his clean rink. He said
that Doc Jas., also a wrecked member,
seemed :to think that the seats were
washed so he wouldn't get his shoes dirty
and that he was nota very good example
for the other kiddies.
All the wrecked members were
shocked. Mr. Lumpy always wrote such
nice stories. But this! The members
looked at one another and even wrecked
member Mrs. Crewcutustopped drawing
pretty flowers on her agenda and looked
. up.
Doc Jas was not happy either. He liked
to play 'at Mr. Lumpy's rink with the
other kids but his feelings were hurt. He
immediately stood up and said that h.e
was taking his toys and'going home, and
as he left in a huff the glass on Mr.
Mike's door' broke all up. It seemed that
the Doc was bigger, than most kids and

the force with which he closed the doer
broke the glass.
But dixector Mike said that was okay.
He wanted some clear glass anyway so
he could see outside and the people of the
community would surely want to buy it
for him. As it.turned out, Doc Jas -bought
hini.a window.,
The meeting was very quiet now•
Allen .Bob, a , wrecked member who
also attended the big meeting's in town,
suggested ,that perhaps Mr. Lumpy
should only say nice things in his stories
and that the final paragraph was
naughty.,,Chairman Repeat .agreed and
said that before anyone else could read
,the story he would take' a crayon and
stroke out a few things so no one would
know who it was.
And so the stories were sent along to
those who were interested in reading it.
But -one lady, Mrs. Elsa Parkland, was:',_
not at' all pleased with the story. Mrs.
Parkland was disappointed that some of ....
Mr. Lumpy's story was re -arranged and
edited and it just wasn't the same.,
So °Mrs. Parkland thought she had

Editor's- Note': There are
times when even the mighty
Globe and ,Mail makes errors,
and according to Roy Dunlop,
business, administrator of the
' Huron County Board of
Edu'cation, this is, very
definitely one of those times.
It is not true that' Huron
County actually pays its
teachers "the salaries , and -
other. benefitsfor which the
Metro teachers are now
asking"
Mr. Dunlop cited this
example: A , category 4
',teacher in Huron with 10
years' experience (top of the
scale) is paid $21,900. The
Metro Toronto board has
.offered $22,969 in the same
category with' •equalex-
perience: the Metro Toronto
"'i teachers are asking $25,863'.
"The Metro board ' has
offered the teachers con-
siderably above what we're
paying here," Mr, • Dunlop
told, the Signal -Star.
telephone interview Tuesday
afternoon.
However, this newspaper
'does agree with Mrs. Haydon
that taxpayers in,Huron have
been negligent in showing
' interest for board of
education bu'§iness, and
certainly should be,"inviting
the board to more complete
and ' continuous openness in
all matters in which they
work on our behalf".

GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, TH-U1 SDAY, DECE. NM.!gR 4, 1975Q5
Board for their next meeting and tell
them that she did not enjoy Mr, Lumpy's
story. So -she wrote a letter .,for the
November 25 meeting but some .of the
things she said were just not nice at all.
Mrs. Parkland said in the letter to
Chairman Repeat that when he stroked
• out things in a story it was censorship
and that Mr. Lumpy had the freedom to
write whatever he wanted in -a -story. She
said that Chairman Repeat was playing
boss with someone else's freedom of
expression.
So the'1etter was sent to the Wrecked
Board in -time for their meeting. Surely it
would cause some excitement.
Wrecked director, Diamond Mike
opened the meeting'with the usual
salutations to all the wrecked members.
When it came.time to read the letters
Some people send tt3 the wrecked board,
Mr. Mike announced that Mrs. Parkland
had sent a long'Tetter to the board.
All the members giggled and laughed
and thought it was very humorous that
Mrs. Parkland would 'w'rite to 'them. 'It
was such a joke. Then the golden
throated director began to read her
letter but no one paid any attention. No
one wanted to hear what she had to:say.
But Director Mike read on and some
▪ members talked among themselve's and
joked, as the thought of Mrs. Pacjklara4
conjured up. humorous visions. As the
other members talked and joked among
themselves, Mrs. C,r-e°wcut dr,,ew some
more pretty pictures of flowers on her
report and wrecked member Oscar
Meyers gave an unusual demonstration
of manual dexterity as he purposely
tried to remove candies from' a package
without success, but with'rnuch noise.
Big n., who was also a wrecked
member and attended the big meetings
with Allen Bob and Doc Jas, came in half --
way through the letter and read it over
after. Chairman Repeat then asked that
the letter be, received and filed and all
the members agreed.
And so Chairman Repeat and his eight
trusty workers, Mrs. Don Nelly, Fred
Map John Boy along with Allen Bob,
Big D,'' car Meyers, Mrs. crewcut and
Doc Jas ignored a citizens expression
and enjoyed more nice stories from Mr.
Lumpy and,Diamond Mike and munched
lustily on their Christmas candies.
