Kincardne to. form ACLD. chapter
As soon as the mail strikeis
over, the Kincardine chapter
of the Association for children
with learning disabilities
(ACLD) will receive its
;char ter.
Suzanne Romanishen is the
president of the new
association in town.
She said that she and her
husband first became aware
,of learning disabilities when
Dr. Casey, frbm:.McKinnon
Phillips hospital" in Owen
Sound spoke at Kincardine
Township Tiverton Public
School about a year ago.
"Several people recognized
their children from his talk,"
she said.
"Their' disability ,is .not
visible," Mrs. Romanishen
Aaiichild with a learning
disability usually has
problems with either speech,
hearing: sight or sometimes
touch and it is not usually
picked up until grade one.
"All of a sudden, a child
can't read," she said.
Mrs. Romanishen said that
often the children are very
quiet and go by unnoticed.
They have .been dubbed the
shadow children."
She stressed the im-
portance of picking up the
disabilities in the early
stages, but it requires an
assessment by a
psychologist.
,The Bruce County Board of
Education has no
psychologist on staff.
Any parents who suspect
their child, has a disability
may take him to Owen
Sound for assessment.

DO YOU KNOW
For instance: When the hair has an excessof copper, it is almost impossible to bleach
the hair to a light shade and to get rid of the reddish gold bond. Toning to a very light
ash or pale tints are almost impossible.
The procedure then' is to remove the copper from the hair so the cause of the gold
band is eliminated and the hair can then be toned to any desired shade.
At The Beauty Lounge we ta-ke the tirvje and the precautionary measures to ensure
perfect results.
From time to time, I will tell you about other minerals and their effect in permanent
waves, tinting, iron curling,, etc.

"Many ,of the,children don't
get along with. their peers
because they , don't seem to
fit," said Mrs, Romanishen.
The Kincardine chapter is
in the midst of setting up a'
Saturday program for the

the -group wants to work in co-
operation with the schools.
"It must be 'almost im-

recognize the problem," she
said, as this type of training is
barely touched upon in
teachers college."
