Presented by Dominion Road Machinery Co, Limited of Goderich, Ontario, the new. super grader was part of a special two-day Equipment Exposition that was attended by more than 500 people representing approximately' 30 countries worldwide, the largest of its kind to be held in Toronto this year. The. Exposition also featured the introduction of a unique series of road graders built by the firm, which average from 26,400 pounds to 37,000 pounds. In addition, a special luncheon was held on Thursday, November 6th, with John A. MacDonald, President of the Export Development Corporation, as the keynote speaker. The "super" grader is an 80 -ton vehicle, nearly 50 -feet long', with approximately 650 horsepower. It is 15 -feet wide and 16 -feet high, with tires averaging 7 -feet in height. It .required four flat-bed trucks to carry pieces of the grader. to the International Centre in Toronto for assembling by a number of derricks and cranes. Yet, despite its size, the ° new machine is easily maneuverable. This was demonstrated as_,part of ,a special original musical production, "Follow the Road," which was presented at the Exposition on Thur sday morning, November 6. A highly specialized machine, the Champion "super" grader will have the capacity to move tremendous quantities of earth in a short period of time and . can literally build a road all bX itself. And, it also merits another distinction =- it is more than double the size of the world's largest grader currently listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. A contest gave represen- tatives at the Exposition an opportunity to name the new grader which will go into production late next year. `.`People power is Cham- pion's strength, states Bruce A. Sully, President of Dominion Road Machinery. "Our company always been proud of the rapport established, between our staff and the owners and operators of road grading equipment. Because of , this, the , new series of graders introduced, at' the Exposition have been specially designed to permit the customer to tailor-makea grader that will' meet his individual needs.
