a success. Though the attendance
was not large, the financial results

house vacated by Mr. Robiasou, while
Mr. J. McFall is occupying the house
vacated by Mr. Essery.-There is a
demand for more houses in our village.
It some enterprising citizen would
build a few good houses they would

and W. H.Butt reviewed the Sunday
School on Sibbath last, and founct it
in a flourishing condition.

member of the I. 0. P. and Canadian order
of Chosen Fritines, holding a beneficiary
policy of $1,000 in each, payable to his
mother. His remains were buriei •on
Thursday, the Ie 0. F. taking charge of
the funeral.

Council met at one o'clook in Varna on
Sept. 24th. lembers all present, reeve in
chair. Byelaw No. 8 for levying school
section sates was read and paused, By-
law No. 9 appointing Thomas Wiley col-
lector, was carried and his bonds accepted.
By-law No. 10 authorizing the collector to
act in aeoordance with sub -section No. 2
of section No. 12 of consolidated amen -
mem act of 1892, was passed. The clerk
was authorized to hand the collector his
roll for the present year, the collector to
• prooeed according to the statute to coiled
the taxes therein, and also than the col-
lector be atihetrized to have all taxes col-
lected by the 14th day of December, 1894,
The council then adjourned to meet again
on November 19th at one o'clock p. m4 -J.

residence of the bride's father on Tuesday
evening last, The bride is a very
estimable young lady and is a favorite t
among a large circle of friends in this
vicinity, while the groom, an intelligent
and prosperous young farmer, le also a

At an early hour Sunday morning Mr.
George Graham died at his residence at
Elizabeth, aged 74. Deceased had been
indentified with the county of Peel for
many years, and has held the position ef
County Treasurer ever since the separation
of the counties of York and Peel.

BRIVP0.-The concert given in the
new hall on Friday evening last was
a grand success. $80 was taken at the
doors, -James fdezlewood, jr., has ob-

pioneers of the township of Usborne
has passed away. In last week's
TIMES he was mentioned •as getting
better, but he took a turn tor the
worse and on Friday morning last he

hundred acres of land between Ktrk--

During his career on the "fartn he oc-
cupied the positions of Councillor,

About eight years ago he moved into
the village of Kirkton, shortly •after
his partner in life pased away During
the last few parses the infirmities of
old age have been creeping upon
him. He as unable to walk across
this floor without help and his sight
almost gone, and finally he was called
to give an account of his stewardship.
He had the honor of laying the corner
stone of the Methodist church erected
here a few years azo of which he was
a consistent member, In noliticshe
was a Conservative His reraains were
followed to tbe grave on Monday last
by a large circle of friends and relatives.
He leaves behind him /ex sons and
three daughters to mourn his loss.
He reached the ripe old age of 81
years and 5 months.

OBITUARY.— One of the oldest
residents of this village, in the person
ot Matthew • Guinter, sr, died last
week. The deceased came frora
Baiersbroun, Germany, about 25 years
age. He has been an industeioua,
henest, good thinking man, by trade
he was a weaver and minion, and,, he
followed Loth occupations here for
years. He lived to the ripe age of 85
years and 7 months. The old gentle-
man was never sick of any COnSeqllenCe
until la grippe attacked him some
time ago and from which he never
finally recovered, he gradually vvaated
away and his ailment was simply old
age, and the machinery beoame worn
out. The funeral was largely attend-
ed by a number of friends; and re-
lative. The remains were interred
le the German cemetery. The funeral
sermon was performed by Rey. Litt,
Beton. -- Frederick Guinter, of
Elkton, Mich., it in -the village at-
tending the funeral of his deceased
father, -.Our hunters are preparing to
go on their annual hunting trip. They
have been shipping their goods and
stennunition in advance. -Mrs, Fink -
bluer, wife of elatthevv Finkbiner,
met with a severe accident. While
milking cows the dog scared tome
other cattle and the cow became
frightened and jumped over her. -
There are some persons in this victinty

Anclrew Hicks who has been very ill
during the past several months, of con-
sumption, the result of a severe attack
of la grippe, is at the vent of death._
Mrs. Geo, Andereou, whet on Sunday
was not expected to recover, is now fast
gaining strength,

On Tuesday, while John Tucker of
the Thames road, Usborne, was engagect
threshing on the farm of a N. lettaKellar
in Hibbert, he had his left leg so badly
mangled and. bruised that ib had to be
amputated above the knee. The separt
ator was running, and Mr Tueker
ha ving oiled the upper gearings, was
passing from one side to the other, and
stepping on the feed board, his foot
slipped, his left leg getting into the
cylinder with above results. It was a
mere accident that both legs were not
injured.

weight and heavy weight took place at

puted claims, and referee declared the

Hereafter, it will be possible for
Methodist ministers to remain five years
in one pastorate. To do so the quarter-
ly board must itivite them by a two-
thirds vote and the stationimecommittee
approve by a three-fourths vote.
• The late C. H. Wilson, a former resi-
dent of Greenway, who died la the East-
ern States, left $100 to the Beaton
Methodist Church, Greenway, which
was founded by his nephew, W. J.
Wiison'general merchant and poet -
muter in the village.
Mr. Ross McPherson, son of Mr.
Alex teePherson, merchaut tailor of
Efensall, died on Monday after a brief
illness, of infiernmation of the bowels.
He was a young man of about 21 years,
universally respected, and had a bright
future before him. His body was laid
ab rest on Wednesday, amid a large
concourse of sorrowing relatives and
friends,
On Wednesday a moat pleasing event
took place at the residence of Mrs. F.
Maguire. concession 2, McGillivray, it
being the marriage of her eldest daugh-
ter, Eliza, to Jacob • Brurnyvell, of Lon-
dou township. The bride was beauti.
fully and becomingly attired in gray
barathea cloth, and was attended by
her sister, Miss Mary Maguire. Mr,
Cliff Mealy, of Liman, acted is grooms-
man. The bride was remembered by
her numerous friends, as seen ie the
beautiful and costly array of presents,
not the least of which was a handsorn
