story by Richard Peck called

pleading to prevent a railway
disaster, Alexander becomes

the story appears in the city
newspaper, his mother who is
humiliated wants Alexander to

another adventure to put the

final resting place,.
For older . children (and
adults as, well) there's a very
sensitive story of Rob Peck and
his pet pig, Rob, a Shaker farm
ahoy, lives in a world of hard
vorlc and bare essentials.
The author, Robert Newton .
Peek, 'has based this story; "A
day no pigs would die", on his
personal background. Set on a
Vermont farm, at a time when
Rob was thirteen, the story,
shows some of the customs of
the Shaker faith, the love and
pride Rob has for .his unusual
pet and in the end the great
sacrifice which he has to make.
