(staff -photo) time girls' bask GD.CI sitong tennis contender The GDCI tennis team carne up with a strong performance and finished second' behind Stratford Central for Huron - Perth honors last„ Week, GDCI managed the second place showing on the strength of the play of Nancy Allin and Kcnudini Weerasooriya, Allin and Weerasooriya captured the ladies' Huron -Perth doubles championship by , defeating Stratford Central in he final. 'En route -to the final they drubbed Seaforth and Stratford Central in their first encounter. Last Saturday they played in the WOSSA doubles cham- pionship but were eliminated in •the first round by Sarnia, the defending WOSSA champions who were also OFFSSA finalists last year. Two first year players, John Brown and Tom Fincher reached the seri-finals in the men's doubles before they were eliminated and coach Bob Dick expects them to improve their' showing in the future, ' Joan Coulter and David Bird. also made a respectable sfiowing in the mixed doubles, bowing out in the semi-finals. iooior ,champs .at Suosef - Steve Davey captured the Junior club championship at Sunset, Golf and Country club this weekend. (staff photo) South Secondary School of London ,beat their cross town counterparts, Clarke Road Secondary School 46-40 in the championship game to capture the Senior Girls; Basketball Tournament held at GDCI last Saturday. The'South school gals opened - the tourney with a win over Seaforth in the first game and adyanced to the finals by defeating Ecole Secondaire Theriault from Timmins '49-45 in an afternoon contest, Clarke Road advanced ,to the finals with a victory over Goderich in the morning and they downed Flesherton in an afternoon semi-final match. The'loss to Cl•a, tie Road in the first game relegated the Goderich squad to the Con- solation round which they wore with a 31-20 win over Seaforth in the final game. After the loss to Clarke Road, Goderich defeated Medway in the semi- finalu.Seaforth entered the consolation round after their Toss to South Secondary in the morning game but&.hey'downed Parkhill to reach the final. The day long tournament hosted by GDCI began at 9 a,m, ' and each of the . eight teams played at least two games.
