Leader, Mrs. Kenneth McDougall presided' and # the pianist, was Mrs. Gordon Gross. The theme of the meeting was Christian Stewardship. Mrs. Donald Haines read passages from Genesis, Isaiah and Deuteronomy. This was followed by Mrs. Kenneth McDougall giving the meditation and prayer. + Mrs. Thomas Jardin favored with a solo: The offering was,received by Mrs, Wilfred Plunkett and Mrs. Elliott Lapp and dedicated With prayer, Mrs, ArhoTd Cook .introduced the, guest speaker, Mrs. Ross Shietls of Lucknow. She chose as her .topic, The Jewish' Faith and Religion.' Her talk was very interesting and informative. • She described 'Jewish Religious customs, their education, home life and their religious holidays. Mrs. Jack Armstrong thanked Mrs. Shi,ells _ and presented her with a gift. The president, Mrs, Gerald McDowell presided for the business meeting and ., Mrs, Norman McDowell gave the financial • statement. At the conclusion, Unit 3 Ladies served a delicious lunch and all enjoyed a social half hour. -On Wednesday evening of the previous week, The United Church,'Woomen presented -Mrs. Garnet Potter with a, gift prior • to her leaving - the manse to 'make her home in Goderich. The members voted that they would': cater to a ' golden wedding anniversary on November 1 •.with dinner served at 5:30 p.m. An invitation to attend the Londesboro W.I. meeting on October 8th was accepted. Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson read ,an address to Mrs. Celia Taylor expressing regrets that she had moved . to Goderich and presented herr with a gift. Mrs. Taylor thanked the„ members for the gift. ' A sing -song was led by Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock and Mrs. Catherine Jackson. A contest was enjoyed by the grand- mothers of putting cotton balls into a bowl while blind -folded. Mrs. Frank Raithby was the winner. Mrs. Maurice + Bean, Mrs. Thomas Lawlor, Mrs: Lawrence Plaetzer and -Mrs. Willia°rn Empey were in charge of the contest. Mrs. William. Empey read the resolutions to be presented at the Uotidon Arena ' annual meeting in St. Thomas and discussions followed. The card report was given by Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell and 'she read the thank -you notes. Roll call was answered by all stating a song popular in their teens. Plans were•,made for the next meeting when ,Cl'inton, Goderich and Goderich Township W.I.'s will be guests. The motto, With each honour there is a responsibility, composed by Mrs. Ed, Davies ,,wasp read by Mrs.. Eleanor Bradnock. Lunch + was served by Mrs. ,,,,Lawt•ence Plaetzer, Mrs, Maurice Bean and Mrs. Ed 'Davies. YOURS $INCEREL Y ., Jim Iayter On Friday, September 19 the Green "Thumbers held their first fall meeting at St. Mary's School with ' president Scott Wilsonjai the chair. Following , .the Gardener',s , Creed and roll call, children who exhibited and won prizes in the August Flower Show reported on their entries and, prizes received. o. Mrs. Carol Wilson reported on the inspection of the gardens she and Mrs. Barnett had made, explaining the point system used in judging. Of the 36 gardens inspected, 12 prizes were awarded. Each winner is to receive a ruse bush for his or her efforts in maintaining, a garden from plants and seeds given to them ,-by the Senior 'Garden Club in the Spring. Money for these rose bushes has been donated by interested members of the ,Canadian Rose Society. �. Presentations of rose cer- tificates will be made this Friday night, September 26 at a meeting being held in- S,ta Mary's School at•8 p.m. by Mrs. Lyzaniwsky, first vice- president of the Canadian Rose Society, . Mrs, Barnett will supervise and assist in planting the rose bushes for the children when they arrive, sometime October and' would greatly appreciate any assistance from any knowledgeable and in- terested rosarian in this project. Madden reported on the success of the Junior Section of the August Flower show pointing Out that .22 juniors exhibited over 55 entries as compared to 13 exhibitors in the Senior section. She encouraged the children to continue lear- ning about horticulture. Mrs. Barnett demonstrated, starting slips of Impatience in perlite ' and concluded the evening by showing the hildren slides of their 'various it ities over the' past year i.e. th visit to the sugar maple bush, tanned and arranged by , Mrs; Bruce Betties; their clean-up and work pn the rockery at the top of the steps leading to the lake. at the bot- tom of Britannia road and' gardens in front of the jail, also .under the supervision of Bruce Betties; and their trip to the Benmiller area with Mr. Bill Wisser when they assisted in placing 14 bluebird boxes -in the early spring.
