The Goderich Area Planning
Board decided at .their last
Meeting to recornyner4,, to
council that the town keep their
parkland in the Kropmer
subdivision and not sell the -
piece of undeveloped• property,
to Conk! in Lu mho'
The decision was ,made after
they planning board read a letter
from town council asking the
board's opinion on the 9ffer to
purchase The offer was made
to council by Conklin on the
property ,,near the corner of
Bennett and Gibbons Streets, '
The land is designated lopen
space td be used f9r a park area
in the subdivision that includes
an apartment building. The lot
measgures 1;2 feet by 42 feet and
fronts on Krohmer Drive,
The geography of the' section,
would not alloy anyone to sever
it off to the two large b.uilding
lots it could contain. Thi' board
considered selling the land with
the. intention of having; the
money, gained invested into a
larger park in town.
Mayor 'Deb's Shewfelt
suggested that it might be a

wise, to -sell the small
piece to make, money on it, so
the tpwn could "plow into"
in another park.
Board member Tom Jasper
said that the board should
determine whether or not the
land was an asset for the town
or a liability. He said if it is'
retained and costs the town
money for little use, it i a
liability. But if it can be .sold
with little change in play areas
and green areas for, the neigh-
borhood residers, then the .
extra money could 'be labelled
an asset.
Chairman, Dave Gower
pointed out to the hoard that as
long i.tinthe land is owned by the
Town cif Goderich it an asset.

He said that• dnce sold it could -
never be regained for the price
of cutting the grass which is all
the town is doing now. He added
that people in the area know it
has been -designated as open
,space and if the town tried to
sell i stow, there would
probably be ohjeCtions.
Charlie Snell asked the board
what purpose they had in"
designating it open space. The
member said that if the area
had been designated as an open
.area.' the board should be
careful that its kept as one.
Elsa Hayddn supported Mr
Snell, pointing out that 'the area
is not fully developed and with
an increase in housing pLjis the
tenants in the apartment
building, the area would.
probably be used regularly
after it is developed.
Tom Jasper said.he did not
realize ` the extent of the
development that is slated 'for,,
the surrounding area. He 'said
that in light of the increase in
population of the area he felt
there was no "way the town
could change the designation
and sell the•land.

say that town equipment would
have to be shared and he
predicted some problems with
the dual use of the machinery.
He pointed out that the two
bodies have always shared
equipment from the same
garage but that the superin-
tendent always knew, what
projects Were' being .done and
could juggle the machinery
around to, get them all done. If
,the -two departments were
separate, the parks may find
they can't use sume'equipment

already spoken for.
Mrs. Havdon feels that the
equipment shortage is no major
obstacle. She said that she
cissurned " the men are in-
telligent and can work together
as they always have even
though they are two separate
entities.'

cOunci1 controls the actions of
the town employees. He said he
didn't care what they thought
about the issue and that it was
"irrelevant how they got

sets the policy.
He added that if no effort was
