"Arthritis continues to:.be one
of the major , causes of
disability among Canadians
although the advances of
medical research are' leading
us, closer to understanding artd
control," the Health Ntinister
feels.
"Treatment methods have
been,. developed , which can
prevent disability for many
patien but prevention of
disabi+ is not enough," Mr.
LaLonde says. "The cause of
arthritis and` the cure for it
should be discovered in order to
prevent it from occuring.
Public and professional
education are also vital to its
control."
"I would like to express my
appreciation and` that ,of the
officials of the Department of
National Health and Welfare
. for the efforts being made in
Canada, particularly by, The
• Arthritis Society, to control this
condition. Thro`ttgh its support
for arthritis research, en-
couragement of patient
treatment and„ public in-
formation activities, ,the
Society continues to serve the
welfare of Canadians," he
concluded., ,
Dr. Frnk Mills, Huron -
County Medical Officer of
Health heartily endorses the
views of Mr. LaLonde.
'During 'Arthritis Week' in
'Goderich,' September 15 to 19,
our local Branch of The
Arthritis -Society is conducting
its annual appeal for support of
the Society's program which
° benefits' many of our arthritic
citizens," Dr. Mills said.
"I. wish the volunteer 'can=:`
vassers every success in this
important community
charitable ,'undertaking," Dr.
