Saddlebred owned by Amok(
and Roni Zonneveld of Ben -
miller, was ridden to, two thirds
and a sixth last week at the
Canadian 'National Exhibition
horse show. The eight year old,
gelding was ridden in the show
by Susan Luther, 19, of Hensall.
Miss Luther rode the Senator
to theplacing earning ribbons
for the second time in as many
shows. She entered the Roth-
rt.14ns series held in St.
Catharines recently, capturing
a first, a second and two eurths
with the Benmiller horse.
The competition at the CNE
was tough acedrding to
Senator's owner Arnold Zon-
neveld. He said the 15 horse
field contained some of the top
horses in the area which served
to keep the riders on edge while
perfOrming in the ring.
The third place ribbon ,at the
CNE was for_the three gaited
Park Class. Judges of the class
look for the entrants to show
strong spirit and temperament
that is kept easily under control
by the riders' expert hands.
The other third .place was in
the 15.2 hands and over com-
petition for horses over six foot
two inches high at the base of
the neck. The class requires,.
horses to show their ability in
all gaits with little urging from
the rider.
In the ladies' class the
Senator placed sixth. In this
class the 'horse's training is
tested by the judges who look
for , instant yet controlled
response from .the horse when
the rider cues him .to 'change
gait, turn or stop. •
In the Rothman's series held
in St. Catherines Miss Luther
brought the Senator to a firstji
