- The . imposition of a faith is
impossible. ' No Matter how
much the preacher may make
an emphatic point the listener
does not necessarily believe.',
There must, be a- union of
spirits, a sympathy of interests,,
an empathy in outlook. •
Since we live in an age of
greaft •doubts and t:nisun-
derstandings, what • • is
•proclaimed becomes in essence
absolutely important. There
must be a great deal of thought
and study behind the
proclamation, an intensity • of
prayer and , meditation, an
understanding of ..people's
needsand•requirements.

Mosaic Law as found in St.
Mark , 12:28-34. He is in a
strategic position to witness the
foibles and downfallings• of all
humanity (including his own!)
He,is in that tactical spot that
informs on•so much discontent,
'dissatisfaction and disaf-
fection....
isaf-
fection.•.
He still has, a message! In
order to make' his point he must
break through the veneer and
facade of society to the inner
person. He must'follow through
with Paul in declaring, I "All
have sinned and come short of
the glory of God•"
Can he do it? That is cer-
tainly one of the main
questions..If he can - and who
says he can't? try, and try, and
try again - then he can trt.t1y
proclaim, "For God so loved
the world,:," (St• John 3:16)
After that -- Holy Spirit, You
must take over!? `r
The preacher is not the 'end,
The preacher is merely the
instrument. Certain in-
formation is'placed in his hands
and his profession demands
that he forward this in-
formation. In fact, he has a
commission from 'the King's-,
own hand to Make known the
riches of the Gospel of„Jesus
Christ.
It; the Gospel„ is seed; it must
fall into the particular types. of
soil that make up humanity; it
will make its own growth once
sown: 'that is all;.the preacher
has perforned his allotted
task; he can help and care and
love; but, only God, t'Irough the
Holy' Spirit, can sanctify, the
seed and allow it ft'uitation.
