Than was the 14th season of
the OntarloYa th usic Camp,
a youth project of the Ontario
-Chapter of the Canadian Band
Directors' Association.
• Situated on the east shore or
Lake Sirncoe is the campsite
where music students from all
parts of Ontario gather to
participate in the musical,
activities andto meet fellow
musicians from other bands
and school programs.
Thiscamp operates for four
;"weeks, each week involving a,
new `'ebnductor 'and different
music. All students attending
this carnp have played their
instrumentfor at'least a year.
...:Ages of theyoungsters range
from 12 to 20 years.
The groups perform, three
concerts a week.. On Friday
eyening they play at Lakeview
Manor in`'Beaverton; Saturday
afternoon at the 'Ontario
Hospital in Orillia; and Sunday
afternoon ,en the camp grounds
for parents and friends.
Music ranges from' classical
to Broadway hits to rock, and
provides something for
everyone. As well as a ;large
concert band, there is a stage
`band, studio' band ,;and - small
ensembles providing the
musicians with an insight into
all styles of performance. .
Director of the camp is
James :Ford, a well, known
trumpet player 'and teacher-,
from London. The staff of in-,
structors is mainly performers
and teachers in the - school
systems or university faculties
iOntario.
Jeff'Hohner;:ftute, and Tan Morrell, clarinet, practice under
the trees at the OntarioYouth Music Carnp. Several
youngsters from the Goderich-Lucknow area:again this year
enjoyed.the excellent program at the cat`np on Lake Simcoe.
Students who attend are between the ages of l2and20 and
must have been playing their chosen instrument for at least
a year. ,

This plan is ' based , on the

farmers from soaring input

British Columbia, with only 14

million for income assurance in
1975. The Ontario farming
industry has s.ivx times the

.On June 27, 1975, the
Provincial Government `t an-
nouriced a voluntary beef -calf

which is to form the first part of

thrust'° as announced in the
budget speech. An . income
-stahi-li-zat-ion-fund was created
whereby all beef=calf producers

voluntary for producers and

Last fall, when the price for
calves on the Toronto marked . .
averaged 35.5c.per pound, and
the farmers were operating at
substantial loss, the only action
taken by the • Provincial -
Government . was 'a loan
program that did ' nothing
towards assuring our Ontario
beef industry of ‘a more stable
• future. : Most producers refuse
to apply for the loans and sink
farther into debt. Only 2&
farmers applied and 10 of -the
applications were rejected by
the Government.
With the beef -calf program
consisting of the first of the
government's promised income
-assistarice programs,' we can
only conclude that a truly ef-
fective farm income -assurance
plan that includes the whole
cost of production will not come
to pass. ''
